CD Description
ON THE WAY TO THE PEAK OF NORMAL, from 1981, was the first conventional pop record Holger Czukay released after the breakup of Can in the late 1970s. Of course, as always with this prime experimentalist, "conventional" is a relative term. Recorded with Can's drummer Jaki Liebezeit, plus occasional help from Conny Plank and Jah Wobble, it is one of the few Czukay solo records that have the feel of vintage-era Can, particularly on the hypnotic, near-instrumental two-song suiteon the original LP's first side. The four shorter pieces onside two are more varied.
Customer Reviews
Beyond the peak of normal.
CAN the most quoted but least heard influence in music of the modern era..FACT..! Holger Czukay co-powerhouse of aforementioned, along with Irmin Schmidt. To speak of this recording in simple terms of quavers and mimims is futile. This piece changes the musical datum in the same way that Copernicus, Newton and Plank did for the physicl world. Effortlessly and unashamedly European, unpolitical, complex... frightening to say:- a mere continuation of the heritage Holger established in that castle in '68. Please buy this record! For once in this world let people with true genius and humanity be rewarded.
