Catchy, punk-pop classic
It's not often I love an album on the first play - in fact Green Day's "Nimrod" and "Dookie" are probably the only other albums I could say that about. This CD is full of songs which you won't be able to get out of your head - you'll be singing along to the likes of "A Film for the Future", "Paint Nothing" and "When I Argue..." on the second listen. Much more interesting than the likes of Blink 182, more lyrically intelligent and musically diverse. The slower songs, particularly "I'm happy to be...." complement the more frenzied tracks such as "4 people do good" perfectly, in much the same way as "Good Riddance" on Nimrod. Why this band aren't massive is a complete mystery. Buy this and fall in love with Idlewild!
Punk Rock at it's Finest!
Whilst not quite matching up to Captain, this album is still one of the best released in the 90's. Singles such as "When I Argue I See Shapes" and "Everyone Says You're So Fragile" are the highlights, but surprisingly (especially if you compare it to Captain), it has its tender moments with "Safe and Sound" and "I'm Happy to be Here Tonight", which punctuate the heavier material perfectly. Though only the singles would earn a place on Captain, the album is well worth buying. Idlewild are like no other band, and it's very difficult to describe their style. Maybe Scottish At The Drive-in with less shouting will do for that. Definitely one to listen to with the volume up, and the neighbours away. Top class, and for a full length punk rock album, nothing comes close!
Definitely worth buying
Since buying this albumn idlewild have become one of my favourite bands. There may be a few weaker tracks on the albumn but the rest is raw, really energetic, great music. Not quite as polished as the fantastic 100 broken windows but when u hear tracks such as "paint nothing" and "when i argue i see shapes" you'll rock out. Fantastic.
