One better than the first album
As you can assume from the title (Second Helping) this was Lynyrd Skynyrd's follow-up to "Pronounced..." and I think with that consisting of songs they'd been playing on tour for years, this is a better album. It is full of classics - Sweet Home Alabama, Workin' for MCA, The Ballad of Curtis Loew and Call me the breeze. I don't think that there is one duff moment, if you're into either country rock or any 1970's music you should buy this. The band were on top form and the guitar army (Gary Rossington, Allen Collins and Ed King) were the perfect backing to Ronnie Van Zant's vocals. Buy this album and rock!

The Second album
This is a great rock album and I have sometimes thought if it had been side three and four of a pretend first double album, then the band would of been international superstars from day one..A Florida band waving the electric rock confederate flag. yee haa.. great stuff.American rawk`n`roll.

Skynyrd's Best
Everyone thinks of Sweet Home Alabama, which is indeed a joyous romp, and still sounds great coming out of the radio. This, however, is a very well-balanced album and SHA is supported by tracks in a variety of styles. I Need You is slow but powerful, with guitars at times sounding like Wishbone Ash; Swamp Music is very much southern funk in style, JJ Cale's Call Me The Breeze is a great workout to close proceedings. The lyrics are a bit obvious and corny at times, and LS did tend to emulate the Rolling Stones to a large extent, but these days that sounds like high praise indeed, and who sounds this good any more??
