Synopsis
Beginning just hours after the original HELLRAISER ended, HELLBOUND finds young Kristy (Ashley Laurence) waking up in a mental institution because she insisted on describing her parents' murderers to the authorities as pain-loving demons from hell. Unfortunately, she has been placed in the car of Dr. Channard, who has devoted his life to solving the Lament Configuration, the key to the doorway of hell, and now, with Kristy, he believes he has found another key. Resuscitating the skinless corpse of her stepmother, Julia, Dr. Channard succeeds in opening a doorway to hell, one that Julia, Channard, Kristy, and her mute friend, Tiffany, all travel through.
Based on a story by Clive Barker, HELLBOUND is both a continuation of the original as well as a much different take on its story and universe. Here, the film fashions itself after an ALICE IN WONDERLAND-type fairy tale as it focuses on Kristy and Tiffany's adventures in hell as well as on the lives of the Cenobites. Infamously gory, surreal, and often horrifying, HELLBOUND is a satisfying sequel to one of the most original horror films of the 1980s.
From the Back Cover
Kirsty Collins (Ashley Laurence) lies in a psychiatric hospital, haunted by the night of unspeakable terror that destroyed her family. Now, only hours later, the nightmare is beginning again. From the blood-stained mattress secreted in his home, obsessive psychiatrist Dr. Channard (Kenneth Cranham) raises the remains of Kirsty's murderous stepmother, Julia (Claire Higgins).
Together, Channard and Julia unlock the secret of the Lament Configuration puzzle box to release the unlimited horrors and ultimate pleasures of Hell. For the second time, Kirsty must return beyond the limits to the Outer Darkness to confront the darkest desires of hell and free her father's soul. A soul-chilling nightmare, Clive Barker's Hellbound resurrects the darkest horrors of Hell unleashed in his award-winning horror epic Hellraiser.

good film, bad DVD -
this is a bad dvd
as simple as that.
i love this film, but there are no extras on this disc.
a trailer does not constitute an 'extra'.
the region 1 version of this movie has a remastered print, THX approved disc. with a featurette and a commentary from the director, writer and ashley laurence.
if you have a multi-region player opt for the region 1 disc instead.
The Worst In The Series Graced By An Appaling DVD
I'm a huge horror fan. and while i don't usually take to the gore hound films, i've been a fan of the Hellraiser flicks for nearly seven years now. Leading almost directly off from the startling and sick original; Hellbound (the name taken from Clive Barkers original book - Hellbound Heart) plummets the viewer straight into hell, as Kirsty Cotton returns to stop a crazed doctor intent on raising hell, and the resurrected evil stepmother (who is now relieved of her atrocious hair-do from the original - thank god) by willingly following them into the dark corridors and mazes of Pinheads domain.
In my opinion this is by far the weakest of the series (and yes that includes that later episodes). It tries to scare us by attempting to portray the impossible - hell itself. It definetly a case where 'less is more' should of been taken into consideration. Instead we have apapling effects, cheesy dialogue, ugly and unbelievable characters, and some of the nastiest moments in the whole series. It makes me feel slightly sick watching this episode, and i highly recommend that you only come to this movie if you've watched all the others and absolutely HAVE to see Pinhead again, who is the only saviour of this film, delightfully played by the wonderful Doug Bradley as usual.
As for the dvd ? Well if you are still intent on purchasing the film - do not buy this version. Whilst it does have the original 80's front cover, its only other good point is that its in widescreen. But there are no interviews, no making off - nothing. The recently released boxset of the first three films includes some interviews, but probably the best edition is the U.S. version which has a trailer, THX, a fairly good featurette, a still gallery, and a commentary with the Director, the Writer and Kirsty Cotton herself - Ashley Laurence.
check out my review (if these amazon guys finally start actually posting my reviews !!!) of the other films which also include a brief summary on the 4th, 5th, and 6th films.
Its alright for a sequel!!
Having owned the VHS version of HR2 i didnt see the point of me buying this on DVD, but as Im such a big fan of the series and own HR1 on DVD i decided that this should be my next purchase. Once I had purchased it I couldnt wait to but it on, when I tried it, it had improved picture quality and excellent playback. But it went wrong somewhere I think it was in the extras, it never had any thing worth looking at except the trailers of HR3,but dont get me wrong its a great film Ive loved it for years, but I think it could of done with some extras like 'how they did the speacial effects' or maybe an 'interview with clive barker'. All I can say great film, great improved picture and [poor] extras, I think this film was only improved by 25%, it could of done better??
