Absolutely ravishing
Michaelangeli's performance of the Ravel Piano Concerto is one that weds technical mastery with soft, gentle lyricism and what it yeilds is absolutely celestial performance. Nowhere have I seen the slow movement played with such sensuousness and sensitivity, as if the pianist is just giving "feather-touches" to the piano keys, trying to wake up a sleeping beauty tenderly, then loving her, stroking her, and putting her back to sleep again. The outer movements are atonce arresting by their technical brilliance and crafy phrasing. One cannot help marvel the conducting of Ettore Gracis(whoever he was!). The Rachmaninov concerto is likewise intensely rendered as epitome of a romantic piano concerto.
