Amazon.co.uk Review
On remote Isla Nuba entrepreneur John Hammond (Richard Attenborough) has built the ultimate theme-park, populated by genetically engineered dinosaurs painstakingly reconstructed from DNA extracted from prehistoric amber... and, of course, frogs! Adapted from Michael Crichton's novels, Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park blockbusters became a cultural and commercial phenomenon thanks in part to the enduring appeal of all things prehistoric. But the films' extraordinarily realistic digital dinosaurs also showcased the spectacular computer-generated effects that have since become ubiquitous in Hollywood filmmaking. Indeed, in the years since 1993 it is debatable whether any films have revolutionised special effects to such an extent, and this DVD box set offers the perfect opportunity to relive both movies' visual and aural splendour (the original film was also the first to be released with a DTS soundtrack).

Given their rather insipid human prey (including Dickie Attenborough and Jeff Goldblum) there is little doubt that the dinosaurs are the real stars, from the benign majesty of the towering brachiosaurus to the reptilian menace of the velociraptors. Most memorable of all is the T-rex, displaying a spine-chilling combination of physical ferocity and child-like bewilderment in the face of its reincarnation in the modern world. While Jurassic Park still retains a unique power and a seminal place in film history, Spielberg's The Lost World sequel exceeds its predecessor in almost every respect: the digital dinos are more populous, faster and meaner, the set-pieces have more bravura, and the special effects raise the benchmark even higher in blending CGI and live action spectacle. Overall, the first film's sense of awe and almost stately contemplation of its own visual splendour are replaced with a more visceral style and darker tone, as the raptors and rexes attack with a predatory ferociousness more reminiscent of Aliens than Godzilla. Highlights include the T-rexes' cliff-top assault on a trailer van, the trails of attacking raptors as they move silently through a field of tall grass, and the safari-style dinosaur round-up by the marauding hunters, led by a grizzled Pete Postlethwaite. --Steve Napleton

Synopsis
Dinosaurs are back...to-back in JURASSIC PARK and JURASSIC PARK: THE LOST WORLD.
In JURASSIC PARK, an eccentric billionaire invites two paleontologists to his private island off South America, where he is constructing a wild animal park--whose specimens are genetically engineered dinosaurs. Breakthrough digital effects bring these extinct animals roaring back to life. Based on Michael Crichton's ravenous bestseller. Academy Award Nominations: 3. Academy Awards: 3, including Best Visual Effects.
JURASSIC PARK: THE LOST WORLD is the sequel to the smash dinosaur thriller. Dr. Ian Malcolm returns for more dino-horror when, four years after the disaster at the would-be amusement park attraction, another expedition is mounted to document the natural behavior of the beasts at mysterious Site B, the island where they were originally bred. The team--composed of Malcolm, a prehistoric behavioralist, a wildlife videographer, and a systems specialist--faces adversity in the form of a less-than-scrupulous company executive, an Ahab-like big game hunter, and, of course, the terrible lizards themselves. Marginally based on the Michael Crichton novel THE LOST WORLD. Academy Award Nomination: Best Visual Effects.

Truly Amazing5
This is arguably, in my opinion, the best Monster movie ever made and one of the greatest films of all time. Spielberg has created a masterpiece of filmmaking, as well as Jaws, Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan. I remember watching this in 1993 at the big screen just after it had came out and was blown away. The cinema was jam packed and I remember that there were queues to see this film, but luckily I wasn't in those queues, I'd already booked tickets. The film was fascinating, I loved it. It was good to see Richard Attenborough being in a film role after about 14 years and he made a great job of it. The visual effects are astonishing, still to this day and the script by David Koepp is brilliant. At all circumstances you must get this film on either video or DVD, but I super highly recommend the DVD edition of the film, which is full of magnificent extras, superb picture and sound quality and brilliant entertainment. Masterpiece.

365 million years in the making and well worth it!5
This film is the film to own. Granted that the film is 10 years old in october 2003, it still remains one of my favourite films of all time. A film that is for both adults and children. I remember seeing the film at the cinema when i was 9 years old and it was absolutely amazing and still is. i still feel the hairs on the back of my neck raise with the entrance of the Tyrannosaurus Rex. A great improvement from previous prehistoric pictures and uses CGI technology to its fullest. A great cast, plenty of thrills and scares that will entertain for years to come. The best Jurassic Park film to date. Go out and buy it NOW!

A masterpiece 65 million years in the making4
An excellent film from director Steven Spielberg. A lot of screams mingled with roars from dinosaurs fail to spoil the enjoyment of watching the film. Even if it doesn't really sell many copies today, back in 1993 Jurassic Park won 3 academy awards and was the most sucessful film in worldwide box-office history. If you like loads of action, noise, violence (and I suppose it's slightly educational as well) I recommend that you buy this film. It's a bargain at £...!!!
