Customer Reviews

hot hard and heavy, a scorchin female funkasourus jam5
betty davis is a true genius.what can i say about this incredible artist, other than if you like serious raw funk, buy it because there are few better funk albums out there. oh, and theres the amazing bass playing by larry graham, from sly and the family stone fame too.

Ooooh this afro is worth dying for5
Betty Davis, a petite figure with an oversized afro, was the true innovator of punk-funk beats as well as vulgo queen style, and this album is genre-defining. Too revolutionary at the time to command much attention, today it is easier to appreciate the originality of her music and the force of her performance. Imitators are legion, but everyone can pen a "parental advisory" text and dress (off) like a slut, while the charisma of authenticity is much more difficut to achieve.
If a few (say Lil'Kim or Lady Saw) do succeed in projecting the image of a sexual predator, there a myriads of pretenders who don't. Betty Davis, too hot to handle even for Miles Davis, was the first pioneer of this particular way of feminist emancipation.
