Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
With its ease of use, it would be easy to overlook the fact that FrontPage 2002 is one of the best pieces of software currently available for Web site creation and editing. What's more, it's suitable for both the intermediate level computer user (someone who's comfortable and adept working in a Windows environment) as it is for the more advanced Web designer. It does this by allowing users to work in either a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor or a raw HTML editor.

Intermediate users will appreciate the lack of complex coding needed in the WYSIWYG editor, as anyone familiar with Microsoft Office applications will recognise the available tools and toolbars. It's easy to insert and edit text, format your Web page to give it the look you want, add graphics (either your own or from its Clipart files), create hyperlinks and anything else necessary for the creation of a high-quality and professional-looking Web site. Multiple page views make it simple to work on several pages at once, and it's fully compatible with other Microsoft Office applications, enabling users to cut and paste from Word or Excel files into a FrontPage document--the conversion into HTML happens automatically. Once you've created your Web site masterpiece, it enables users to upload files onto a server quickly and easily using a simple drag-and-drop system. FrontPage takes advanced Web site creation and makes it as simple--or as complex--as desired. --Ted Kord

Pretty Good....5
I think the previous reviewer, Tom Morris, should look beyond his prejudice against Microsoft and look at this product for what it is, not just because it came from MS. Sure, Dreamweaver is far superior - but then so is the price; it's like comparing a Rolls Royce against a Ford Mondeo - the Roller has got all the bells and whistles and is a luxury item, but the Mondeo is a good functional machine that does the job just as well. And how many people need, or would use, all the bells and whistles that come with Dreamweaver?

Looking at FrontPage realistically, it is a fantastic piece of software that makes building web sites dead easy and in a very user friendly way (unlike Dreamweaver!). I use it for writing ASP files, and it is more than adequate; for your everyday user out there who just wants a simple, powerful tool to build a good looking, functional web site, look no further than FrontPage. Unless, of course, you do have the several hundreds of pounds required for Dreamweaver, Flash et al......

It works4
I used FP and had a fairly complex site up and running in a week. I have no experience with the competition, so I can't compare FP with the others. What I do know is that if you want to create a website quickly, with no HTML experience, FP will let you do it. It works. And the tutorial, which you can download from MS is very helpful.

Not the best admittedly4
For the price Frontpage 2002 is a very useful product. It's not Dreamweaver, Flash 5 and Photoshop (as an earlier reviewer mentioned) but it also doesn't cost £1000 which the 3 aforementioned programs would (roughly) set you back.

The key features of Frontpage that make it really useful are the integration with onboard server software and the ease of publishing and managing site files. These are not trivial tasks when you're managing large web sites - I have one with over 38,000 files.

Like everything, it's horses for courses, but for the novice to intermediate user Frontpage is quite OK in my opinion.
