Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
Nothing, apparently, lasts forever. But in light of the youthful quality of Live in Liverpool, it's entirely fitting to see the original super furry Merseysiders ignoring their own maxim. Echo and the Bunnymen's first ever official "in concert" offering, Live in Liverpool captures the Bunnymen performing at Paul McCartney's Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts in August 2001. Frankly, though, the date is a matter of utter horological insignificance, for despite encroaching superannuation, depleted membership (only gloom crooner Ian McCulloch and sitar-flavoured guitarist Will Sergeant remain from the old days) and increased competition from garment-filching younger bucks, Echo and the Bunnymen are still cutting the live mustard. For even the casually committed, Live in Liverpool is a tasty alternative to any of the preceding Best Of compilations, not only offering those cornerstone moments of monochromic sleepy-eyed psychedelia ("Zimbo") and nautically-inspired nonsense ("Seven Seas") but such items of gloriously dark pop as "Rescue", "Lips Like Sugar" and the stealthy, surf-guitar strewn, cloak-and-dagger drama of "Killing Moon". For oburate, floppy-eared Bunny fans, Live in Liverpool is nothing less than essential. --Kevin Maidment

Customer Reviews

At last, a definitive Bunnymen live album.5
Over 20 years since The Bunnymen formed and, at last, we have a definitive live album. A glance at the track-listing should be enough to tell you that this picks out the classic tracks from their entire history up to last year's patchy but excellent 'Flowers' album. The sound's fantastic ; Mac's voice as great as ever and Will is right up in the mix. The contribution of the backing musicians shouldn't be overlooked -- they compare favourably to the irreplacable rhythm section of Pete and Les.

Also check out the excellent, accompanying DVD. Recorded on a different night with a slightly different track listing, it's visual proof that The Bunnymen have lost none of their swagger.

bunnymen better than ever5
Wholeheartedly agree with the Amazon review, saw the bunnies recently. The best since they reformed. This album is remeniscent of the gig and includes many of the songs played. The only difference is the cd isn't deafening. Mac is as cool as ever, Will's guitar playing is excellent and the addition of a second guitarist makes the sound harder than anything since Electrafixion.

King Of Kings4
The Bunnymen are at their best on the live stage. This CD features some excellent performances from the current day line up. Particularly impressive is the version of Zimbo, which is given a 'widescreen epic' feel.
Great though this CD is, the Bunnymen still miss bassist Les Pattinson and the late Pete Defreitas on drums. They both gave the original Bunnymen an extra dimension.
