Customer Reviews

A Rose without Thorns5
This is an album that lives up to all expectations, and any fan of the Baebes cannot help but become further in awe of their prowess. New listeners are in for a real treat, and will no doubt dip into the back catalogue after acquiring this delicacy.

The Rose is not only a fantastic piece of work - it shows that the Baebes have definitely come of age, and that they have found the true direction in which to head. From Salva Nos through to Undrentide, they have experimented and stretched their talents, but before they have come nowhere near to the richness and texture displayed in The Rose, although Undrentide was pretty close.

As with the flower of the same name, you can peel through the many layers of this album to marvel at the skills and talents of this ever-dimishing group of singers and musicians. Be amused by the stunning Dringo Bell, where the Mediaeval Bloakes finally get a look in and Katharine Blake shows what makes her such a class act. Be shocked yet delighted at the salacious lyrics in "The Sour Grove". Feel the shivers down your spine whilst listening to "I am Eve". Find yourself tapping your feet to Teresa Casella's "Lick The Maypole". The list and the switches to your emotions go on and on,

A true delight to the senses and a feast for the imagination, The Rose cannot fail to please. Definitely one for the collection.

By far my favourite5
