Amazon.co.uk Review
Rap star Eminem makes a strong movie debut in 8 Mile, an urban drama that makes a fairly standard plot fly through its gritty attention to detail. Jimmy Smith (Eminem), nicknamed B Rabbit, can't pull himself together to take the next step with his career--or with his life. Angry about his alcoholic mother (Kim Basinger) and worried about his little sister, Rabbit lets out his feelings with twisting, clever raps admired by his friends, who keep pushing him to enter a weekly rap face-off. But Rabbit resists--until he meets a girl (Brittany Murphy) who might offer him support and a little hope that his life could get better. Under the smart and ambitious direction of Curtis Hanson (LA Confidential, Wonder Boys) and ably supported by the excellent cast and the burnt-out environment of Detroit slums, Eminem reveals a surprising vulnerability that makes 8 Mile vivid and compelling. --Bret Fetzer, Amazon.com

A lot better than I expected it!
So here it is! Famous raper's Eminem debut in a movie; and it's really great! It is somehow of an autobiography of Eminem, describing the difficulties he faced back in 1995 in Detroit, while trying to evolve and become probably the best raper in the world that he now is! The movie is accompanied with a great soundtrack, "Lose Yourself", which lead Eminem to win an Oscar! As for the special features of the dvd, they are very good, including making of, interviews, rap contests, backstage plans, trailers of upcoming movies 2 Fast 2 Furious, The Hulk) and others.
Movie 5/5, Dvd 5/5, Overall 5/5. Buy it! It's worth it!
Great Film, better than I expected it to be
It was nothing like what I had expected, no frills from Hollywood here, even the way its been filmed has a more real feel to it, I did not expect to like this film, I thought oh great another rapper who thinks he can act, but I take that back Eminem does a damn good job on this film, the ending is the last thing I would have expected, well worth wtaching at least once.
This Is The Eminem Show
In many cases, 8 Mile is the Eminem show, inspired by his life and love for music, but 8 Mile seems to evolve beyond that.
As an untrained actor, Eminem has a lot of obstacles to pass, but Director Curtis Hanson seems to have a grip on this and before you know it, Mathers is making a brilliant performance in his first movie.
Set in '95 Detroit, 8 Mile is a story about a man having to overcome obstacles and culture trouble in order to earn his inspired dream of being a cult hip-hop artist.
Jimmy "Rabbit" Smith (Eminem) lives with his mother (Kim Basinger) in a trailer park in the urban side of Detroit, and he is having a few problems with his life, his girlfriend has split up with him, he's living in a black cultured society and his anger is becoming more infumed as the days go by, so teaming up with the local rap battle spokesperson Future (Mekhi Phifer) Rabbit starts to let out all of his hatred and pain through his rhymes, whilst getting the girl (Brittany Murphy also making her debut) and trying to make a name for himself.
Bonus material includes the making of the film including commentary from the cast and crew, other features include the music that inspired the film and the previously unavailable video for "Superman".
For a man whose world lives in a music universe, this movie makes for a popcorn filled extravaganza, top notch stuff from the real slim shady.
