CD Description
Grand Funk's 1973 release, WE'RE AN AMERICAN BAND, continued the band's winning streak. It's gone on to become one of their most popular albums.
Slightly more pop-based than their previous work, the band plays as if it can do no wrong on this strong set. Produced by Todd Rundgren, the album spawned such gems as the rowdy and autobiographical title track,as well as such other highlights as "The Railroad", "Stop Looking Back", and "Ain't Got Nobody".

High on a crest of a wave
I got a copy of this as soon as it came out in 73 and loved it ever since, This remastered version is brilliant and lets us hear just how good a band these guys were!. Mr Todd Rundgren does get the best out of em while they are playing in the studio, also the captured sound is cleaner than earlier Terry Knight productions. the album and single shot to the top of the American billboard 100 and rocked the western world.Just listen to Stop looking back or the railroad. Ever wondered what all the fuss was about ? nows your chance
America,s Darlings
While I was on vacation in the states I was very lucky to see this band live, may 2 1974 capitol center Washington DC. A fantastic concert and a fantastic band. This disc We`re an American band , really did show the group had grown up and were in control of their own destiny. Starting with the FM radio friendly title track the band cruising through some major rock and roll workouts. my favourites are still the same, Stop looking back(which I note a former reviewer does not like, Saying its the worst song! get the ear muffs off!!!!) The railroad,Creepin, I aint got nobody, Super. This is the Grand Funk.
SAY IT LOUD - AMERICAN AND PROUD
In July 1973 'We're An American Band' hit the stand. And the trio became a foursome, officially.
The title track is anthemic and a fist punch for GF on their US roots / war cry.
Stop Lookin' Back is ok but the bonus acoustic version is dreadful. Vocally tragic. Fortunately GF don't go down the unplugged route very often. Best left.
Creepin' is a slow, soulful track with a great Mark Farner vocal delivery.
Black Licorice is a fast, funky number but I've always felt that the live version is better.
The Railroad is a tour de force. Slow, driving and atmospheric with a good build up to a dramatic climax.
Ain't Got Nobody is a pop song. Nothing more.
Walk Like a Man is the show stopper here. A slightly funky, driving song with a great arrangement and a good hook to it.
Loneliest Rider is Mark on the Indian/preacher trail. A different drum beat from Don Brewer adds a little variety.
Best tracks : Railroad, Walk Like A Man
Best left alone : Stop Lookin' Back
Overall, there's a good feel to this album with some strong Brewer lead vocals.
