Almost perfect wireless desktop4
The Microsoft wireless optical desktop, is by far one of the best optical wireless desktops I have worked with. It looks great, and for its price, it has great quality. However, the reason Im giving it four stars instead of five, is because setup was a pain. I am using Windows 2000, and after I installed the desktop, the computer didnt recognise it, so it took quite a while of fiddling around to finally get the computer to recognise the hardware. Secondly, after the computer had recognised the desktop, the mouse lagged tremendously, and often froze. It then took me a furthur 30 minutes to fix this problem. Overall, this is a great peice of hardware, but can be a bit frustrating at times.

Very good value keyboard with 3 minor gripes4
Microsoft, as usual with their mice and keyboards, have pulled one out the bag. Setup was very easy but i did have to have a look on the back of the keyboard and mouse to check which version i had. Keys feel good and are almost silent when pressed.

One of the gripes i have with the keyboard is messing about with the "home, end page up, page down, insert and delete" block of keys where the order has been changed from a standard keyboard. Delete is now twice the size and takes up where the insert key should be (Insert is on the now even more over crowded PrtScn/Sysreq button) The most annoying thing by far about moving the keys around is that home and end have moved. this makes editing really slow till you get used to it.

Along with messing around with that block they have added all sorts of "common" function buttons as an alternative to the f1,f2 etc buttons. The access to these functions (which mostly only seems to work in microsoft products) is done via a toggle key called "F Lock" this is very anoying when you go to prss f5 and it brings an open document window instead of running your VB program. That winge neatly moves me on to the next minor gripe the ability to tell if caps lock, numlock, F Lock and Scroll Lock is on or off just with the keyboard is not possible. Microsoft have obviously decided to remove the status lights on the board and stick them on the reciever which in my case is under the desk... handy! It is worth mentioning that the status of the toggle keys is displyed on the screen when you turn caps lock/ numlock off etc.. but by then it's too late!

On the whole tho the package is great, these are the only falts i can find with the entire system. The mouse is amazing and the buttons on the top of the board are really good. For a smidgen over 40 quid you can't go wrong!

Go on buy one!

Great but dodgy :-/4
This is a good mouse/keyboard set with only a few let downs...
The range is 3 feet only
The mouse is a bit laggy and only scrolls when plugged into usb
The keyboard keys arent as good as those in previous designs

Still:
it looks great and stylish
the mouse has horizontal scrolling
so many different functions for the function keys

In all i think this is a good piece of kit, just not 100 %
