Customer Reviews
couldn't believe it...!
This album just made me want to cry it was so good, a mix of brutal death metal and finnish folk music. Nobody can write an accurate review of this album as it is un-reviewable but i'll try and infuse you with my enjoyment... it just makes you feel over the top happy and you want to crack open some beer, pour it into a silver tankard and drunkenly sing along to it with some friends. imagine if TOM WAITS did a death metal album, it would sound like this. It really is good company music, i showed my girlfriend and at first she had a look on her face as if to say "what the hell have you bought" within a minute that had changed to "have you got any drink for me?" it really is that good. you get the same feeling from listening to the pogues, bombastic rythyms and charging vocals, with surprisingly melodic folk music played over it.
It is way too hard to pick out a favourite song but i'll give it a go.
1 trollhammeren - first drink.
2 ellytres - third drink
3 fiskarens fiende - ninth drink
4 nattfodd - hospital
it's only on for about 30 mins but you will be drunk by the end of it. GUARANTEED.
there is also an instrumental the like of which i have never heard before, instead of music it is the sound of trolls marching through the woods chewing their latest kill. then when you think its over an intense death metal song kicks in for a minute and it's over. THIS IS GENIUS!!! thank you finntroll, thank you. please don't eat me.
This shouldn't workbut it does
Quite simply this IS THE best album I have heard, since I got Master of Puppets 8 years ago. It's got everything you can possibly want in an album. From start to finish it shows a high level of musical abillity, in both playing and composition. There are Polka/Humppa elements in every song, but they are not used in big chunks. They merely follow the main part of the songs - being the guitars, bass and drums. Cross-genre albums have been risky in there initial conception and many rarely 'work' as well as this. Just look at Rap-Metal! This is one of the most statisfyingly pleasing albums I own. From start to finish there is a constant smile on my face. Not through laughing at them, but enjoying how good this is. The band must have had such an enjoyable time recording this album, you can actually hear this when you listen to the album. Ok, so you can't understand the lyrics, unless you can speak Swedish, but that's no the point. It's all about the music. The Polka/Humppa hooks in the songs, will be in your heard and you will find yourself humming them at every available opportunity. This is infectious. This is addictive. This pure genius on CD. This is Finntroll. Buy this album. You need it! No, really YOU do!!!
Brilliantly mad polka-metal
What happens when you mix black metal with polka (humppa)? Quite simply you get this brilliantly insane and very listenable metal album. The band is Finnish, the lyrics are Swedish, it's loud, it's fast, it's about trolls and it's highly addictive. The songs are rousing and the band certainly sound like they're enjoying themselves; in fact you can almost hear the beer mugs thumping!
