Manufacturer's Description
The Wireless-G Notebook Adapter with SpeedBooster is the simple way to add or upgrade wireless connectivity in your notebook computer. Just slide it into your notebook's PC Card slot and enjoy high-speed wireless network access while retaining true mobility. The Wireless-G Notebook Adapter with SpeedBooster incorporates the next generation of Wireless-G. In standard Wireless-G (802.11g) mode, the Notebook Adapter can connect to wireless networks at an incredible 54Mbps. With the new SpeedBooster technology enabled, your "real-world" wireless network performance increases by up to 35%! Unlike other speed-enhancing technologies, SpeedBooster is 802.11 compliant, fully compatible with standard Wireless-G, and a "good neighbor" to other wireless devices and technologies, using a single 2.4GHz channel as specified by the official wireless standard. And, unlike other technologies, with SpeedBooster you'll see an overall speed improvement even when running a mixed network of SpeedBooster and regular Wireless-G devices.Once you're connected, you can keep in touch with your e-mail, access the Internet, and share files and other resources such as printers and network storage with other computers on the network, wherever you wander. At home, you can surf the web or use instant messaging to chat with friends while sitting out on the patio. Your wireless connection is protected by up to 128-bit encryption. The included Setup Wizard will walk you through configuring the adapter to your network's settings, step by step. You'll also be able to connect with any of the growing number of public Wireless-B (802.11b) hotspots springing up in coffee shops, airport lounges, hotels and convention centers. And as those hotspots upgrade to the high-speed Wireless-G standard, you'll be ready to take advantage of the increased speeds.Get your notebook connected to Wireless-B, Wireless-G, and SpeedBooster wireless networks with the Wireless-G Notebook Adapter with SpeedBooster from Linksys.

Going Wireless? Then Try This Product...
An excellent product as i have one card already! works flawlessly with other wireless lan products. can communicate to other pcmcia cards without a router or an access point. very easy installation on linux (will require the download of 3rd party drivers), windows me and windows xp.
if you are installing it on windows xp then don't bother with the cd setup as xp has built-in support for wireless networks; just insert the card and the point the drivers location to the cd. if you want the software that comes with it called the "wireless network monitor" then follow the cd instruction. the reason this product has received 4 stars and not 5 is because i'm not sure that speedbooster really makes a difference. otherwise the security settings can be completely customised, several network connections can be stored, and areas are automatically surveyed for wireless access points (if you install the software or are running windows xp with service pack 2). overall great product and very compatible with several other wireless routers, access points, etc...
Oh, yes.
I'd been stumbling along with a wireless-b card for far too long. My desktop was downloading at five times the speed of my laptop, and that was annoying. I bought this one because it said 'speedbooster'. Sad but true, my need for speed overrode all other concerns.
I put the CD in, followed the quick installation guide and rebooted, and as if by magic... suddenly I was downloading files at 700kbps. So really, a doddle to install and it really does suck down the info at top speed.
Software Problems
I bought this WPC54GSUK to work in an old IBM T21 ThinkPad running Windows XP SP2. My Linksys WAG54GS UK wireless router is connected to my desktop and works fine. I had installed the Linksys software on the laptop, there was an excellent signal but, although it could ping web sites, the laptop would not download Web Pages in either IE6 or Firefox or AVG virus definitions. After fiddling about with the settings, occasionally it would work, but not consistently. I had almost given up, and Linksys Tech. support couldn't solve the problem. (I hope they read these reviews)
So I thought I'd try a Netgear Card instead. After removing the Linksys software I noticed it said the laptop was still connected using Windows/Start/Connect To. So I tried again to download web pages and "Hey Presto", it worked all the time, even pulling the card out and plugging it in again. I have turned the laptop off and on, many times, and the WPC54GSUK works perfectly every time.
If you are having similar problems, only use the WPC54GSUK drivers from the CD, don't use the Linksys interface software, use XP's Wireless Connections to access the web. Also, disabling the Intel Network Connection in Device Manager on the IBM ThinkPad might have been a contributory helpful factor, as I read that somewhere too.
Anyone want to buy an unused Netgear Card?
