Elite 4? :)
Superb game - the nearest anyone has come to providing a modern replacement to Elite. Good graphics, excellently balanced gameplay and learning curve. The game is generally non-linear however there is a overall story that you must follow at certain points to advance (this can be removed if you prefer total freedom - see lancersreactor.com). I strongly recommend purchasing this game if you were ever remotely interested in Elite from the 80s & 90s.
THE best game in existance!!!
where do i begin? EXCELLENT game from microsoft here. rather than being a direct sequel to Starlancer, it's more of a future storyline, so you don't have to have played Starlancer to know what's going on. - as is the case with far too many other games produced now.
fair enough, the game control is mouse only, which does get irritating if your playing it on a touchpad, but otherwise, it's MUCH better than joystick control, once you get used to it.
the single-player storyline is fairly linear, but the variation of what you can do is pretty wide - mostly in terms of the different starships that you can fly - any from 25-odd fighters and 5 freighters. and don't even get me started on the weapons - guns (of 7 different types), missiles, mines, torpedoes... the list goes on.
there are over 40-odd different factions that you can ally yourself with - pirates, smugglers, police, navies, bounty hunters, traders, miners...
once you get the hang of piloting, you can try you luck in only of the many multiplayer internet servers out there. Freelancer lets you do this really easily, and drops you into the universe as it is at the beginning of single-player - but now, you can do pretty much anything!
Here's hoping for Freelancer 2!!
'Elite' fans, this is for you!
If, like me, you were a big fan of the original "elite" and have since longed for something to tickle your retinas, as well as ruin your desire to leave your PC, then look no further! This game embodies the spirit of 'Elite', do the missions, or don't; it doesn't care! Have fun, spending time honing your skills in combat before you take on anything too hard, or just go about your trading business!
If you like doing what you want, when you want to do it, then this is the game for you!
