Average customer review:Product Description
It was a time of bitterness and hatred, a war which pitched father against son, brother against brother in the bloody battle for the soul of the nation. It was winner takes all. After seven years of turmoil, even the dramatic execution of King Charles I could not bring peace, more bloodshed still lay ahead. The most tragic and dramatic chapter in English history is recorded in this spectacular and entertaining DVD. It features superb battle re-enactments and reconstructions, dramatised eyewitness accounts and delightful period imagery to chronicle the events, the major personalities and the battles of the war. The programme also includes 3D computer graphics and expert analysis from leading historians to tell the story of the English Civil Wars. Narrated by Robert Powell. Previously available on VHS HW005

Customer Reviews
Learning our history
This eighty minute program needs watching more than once to absorb all the facts and figures. It is well-researched and written, narrated by Robert Powell.
It needs more than one viewing as the military re-enactments, narration and background music can get confusing. It was sometimes difficult to hear Powell's narration against the competing background noise.
Aside from this one criticism, this is an informative and eminently watchable account of "the most tragic and dramatic chapter in English history".
'Lots Of Detail'
The subject of 'The English Civil' war was only touched on when I was at school so I was delighted to see that a, value for money, DVD was available covering this turbulent time in British history. It would take a very long essay for me to do this documentary justice. However, if you value your heritage and enjoy maps, re-enacted war scenes and detailed explanations of why, who and when then I would recommend this as a worth while purchase.
The English Civil Wars
An ideal introduction to the English Civil Wars for those wishing to learn the basics without spending too much time or money doing it. Part of The History of Warfare DVD series by Cromwell, this DVD brings to mind the Ladybird Books of my childhood, with short, neatly presented 50-55 minute programmes, packed with basic information put forward in a clear, simple, but entertaining style. I have no hesitation in advising that you buy and enjoy this DVD. The English Civil Wars [DVD]
