Manufacturer's Description
Rome: Total War: Barbarian Invasion commences just after the last Emperor of a unified Rome has died. His successors in Rome and Constantinople are now uneasy allies and rivals for power. The 'barbarians' are massing along the borders, and in some cases are living inside what used to be Roman territory.
Two hundred years have now passed since the main campaign in Rome: Total War. Players can now control vast armies and over 100 new units as they battle across an updated European map that now reflects the historical changes since Rome: Total War. Tear Rome apart by leading hordes of barbarians or stand and defend the Empire as a leader of one of the two former Romes, the Western and Eastern Empires.

Unleash hell!
Im a big fan of the Total War series, and I think Rome Total War is the best. With Barbarian Invasion comes a whole new challenge, there are 10 new playable factions in campaign mode and way more in the custom battle setting, and new options such as starting as a Horde.
This is a much more difficult game, the problem is if you start as Barbarian Faction you only have one settlement, if you start as a Roman faction most of your settlements are ready to revolt and you have no money. Every faction is in the same boat, so everyone is trying to gain as much land as possible and no one wants to be your friend, and if they do beware they will betray you, sooner rather than later.
Playing as a Horde is a new option, this means you start without a settlement, but with a massive army, you have the option of sacking settlements, which is where you strip a settlement of anything of value then move on, or settling, but beware you lose part of your army with every settlement you settle in. Hordes are a thing to dread and prepare for when playing a settlement holding faction, just as you think youre doing a good job of managing your settlement 2000 Hun turn up and wipe you out! Be warned.
The introductory video sequences for each faction are missing and there are fewer factions to play as, its also frustrating to see the other factions warriors that you cant have in campaign mode, the Celts look mint! But these may become available with patches and cheats in the future.
Still this is well recommended.
Rome: Total War
If you're new to this style of grand strategy, then initially it will overpower you with all the game functions. However, persevere and what initially appears to be a simple conquer-the-world-with-big-battles game, soon turns out to be a quality srategy management event. It requires a lot of thought and long term planning, for example; building sewers in a town has an effect on the type and quality of troops that can be recruited. If you're an old hand at this sort of thing, then this is not just a progression along the long road to strategy gaming perfection. All in all, R:TW will appeal to virgins and veterans alike, whether playing a set piece battle (watching your elephants trample the enemy underfoot is particularly satisfying!) or the campaign game. Highly recommended.
DEAD HARD DEAD GOOD
So here we go again no sleep no social life for a few months a no contact with the outside world. The first ROME TOTAL WAR was such a worthwile experience that this had alot to live up to and it has JUST.....The game is rock hard which is good especially for these types of games as history is a long time so it should take a long time to change history shouldn`t it?There are new factions and new armys but mostly the campaign is the same but harder with the introduction of HORDES so if a faction loses its last settlement(including yours) the last few lifelines go off looking for a new home to set up camp and start again which adds length to the already massive game.Money is hard to get to work so you do not keep losing the gold stuff you have to juggle between your citys standing still or flourishing forward but at a cost.Religion is also a major player in this and you must convert citizens to a chosen path or suffer major unrest in your cities.A great game and add on very tricky must perservere im still losing now but enjoying it TRICKY BUT VERY SATISFYING 9.5/10
