Editorial Reviews
DVD Description
This is Billy Connollys first new live DVD in over three years. Taken from his fantastic 'Too Old to Die Young' tour in 2005 it features the hilarious New York show. This is the first time one of Billys shows has been filmed in the US even though he has been touring there for over 30 years. Absolutely classic stuff from the Big Yin.
Synopsis
Stand up comedy with Billy Connolly recorded during his tour of America.
Customer Reviews
Big Yin in the Big Apple
On first watching this DVD did not do it for me. I thought that perhaps Billy had lost a bit of his spark but then on second watching many of the quips and stories are original and directed at the American audience. Very enjoyable but not quite as good as the old Billy.
still great
I'm 16 and was introduced to Billy some time last year. I've seen most of his previous videos and this performance is just as good as any other, sure hes getting on a bit, but old people are funny to watch anyway! Billy far outranks any comedian of today and this DVD proves that he still got what it takes. well worth the money!
Past his Prime
Being an avid fan of Billy for some years now and owning the majority of his videos/DVD's and some of his early work on audio casette tape, I bought this DVD as soon as I saw it without reading any reviews, oh how I wish I had waited.
Basically in the run time of 92 minutes there are only one or two funny moments, where previously you were laughing pretty much all of the way through the show.
The reason that he is usually so amusing is that he uses observational humour, by this I mean he just says what he has seen in real life and the fact it is so true and you can relate to it makes it all the more amusing. However, there seemed alot less of this observational humour in this DVD and what was there seemed somewhat forced. Maybe this is because his life is changed now and he doesnt experience things as he did in his earlier years and therefore is running out of anecdotes.
He still uses the same method of performance by starting to tell something then going off on a tangent then coming back but unfortunately the content is no longer there and there are points in the show when he goes off and you are left why is he bothering to say this, it is just dull, essentially there are too many stories that are just "fillers".
In short if you want to own Billy Connolly on DVD and you want to see him at his best buy the World Tours (particularly the one of Scotland) and don't waste your money on this.
