Muscular & Funky....Cream's Masterpiece
Of all the video products out on Cream, this is by far the best. The music from this all-time classic album is 5+ stars. Once you view this, you get a whole new perspective on the album and its individual songs (much like other "Classic Album" series DVD's). I now enjoy my CD of this landmark album that much more after listening to the story behind songs such as "We're Going Wrong", "World of Pain" and "SWLABR" ("she was like a bearded rainbow"). It was primarily the songs that were not as famous that amazed me on this program. Most of the primary players that were involved in the making of this album are fortunately still alive and on hand to discuss their memories (including the talented artist that created the famous album cover). Eric's introduction to the "wah-wah" petal helped make "Tales of Brave Ulysses" a favorite back in 1967. It was also interesting to hear about some of their influential peers (Clapton mentions "The Loving Spoonful" as one). They have pulled together some great classic black & white and color footage on this DVD. The bonus track for "Tales of Brave Ulysses" is an incredible fully restored color vintage performance!
Audio: 4.5 stars
Video: 5 stars (new footage); 3-3.5 stars (old footage)
Bonus features: 5 Stars
If you enjoy Cream, late 60's rock or any of the "Classic Album" DVD's you won't go wrong. Well priced too!
Simply brilliant ...
If you're already a fan of Cream's music then this dvd release of arguably the band's most accomplished album is full of great interviews, performance clips and a wealth of information that makes it an essential purchase.
If you aint a fan already, then pick up the Cd first - have a listen - and you soon will be!
I've been following the Band for the past 30+ years and this dvd release is an excellent addition to any music fan's collection - take a look and see what all the fuss was (and still is) about.
Excellent picture and sound quality throughout. Brilliant.
Classic Albums - Disraeli Gears
When this album was released I was 16 years old. After playing it to death I never tired of it, or any of the other Cream albums. Even today the songs are still fresh and a joy to hear again. The opportunity to see this DVD with the memories of the band and associated people behind it is something I could only have dreamed of. Amongst the personal highlights are some of the explanations of how the songs came into being, finally seeing sleeve artist and lyricist, Martin Sharpe, Jack Bruce's piano/vocals version of We're Going Wrong, and Eric Clapton's acoustic/vocal renditions of another couple of the songs from the album. Ginger Baker also has an excellent input, and even now he is still one of the world's greatest ever drummers. To sum up, if this album is one of your favourites, this DVD is an absolute must, if you don't have the album but know a couple of tracks, buy the DVD, then the album.
