Editorial Reviews

Synopsis
One of the original Beatles, Pete Best--who was famously replaced by Ringo Starr just before the quartet exploded into the spotlight--shares his vivid memories of the band's early days in this illuminating program. With a sharp memory and a surprising lack of bitterness, Best fondly recalls the band's formation and early gigs in Germany and Liverpool. Dozens of others involved in that scene are also interviewed here, and the result is a detailed and complete portrait of an important, exhilarating, and creative time in musical history.

Customer Reviews

Much better than expected4
I had expected yet another Beatles cash in but this is much better than that and is an attempt to produce a proper documentary account - albeit from a particualr perspective. Although the dvd is said to be the story of PB's life it only really covers in detail his early life and his time in the Beatles. Both the main feature and the extra interviews are fascinating and the whole thing is well presented and the material on the Hamburg period is particularly good forming a good supplement to the much briefer coverage in Anthology. Some of the best material is in the extras, the interviews with Brian Poole and Mike Smith being particularly interesting.
