Great Performance - Only Not the Right Choice of Choir
A finalist for the Classic fm Gramophone Awards 2007 apparently. Well, it is by a Cambridge Choir so the standard of performance is not going to be anything less than impeccable. Problem is the Choir chosen - the Choir of Clare College - is a mixed choir. The producer's justification is that Wesley would have preferred sopranos to trebles had he any chpice in the matter but these anthems were still written for a traditional cathedral choir. The sound is lovely, but I purchased this for the lovely sound of the English Cathedral musical tradition so I suppressed the rating by 1 star.
