Synopsis
Richard Wise's (THE SOUND OF MUSIC) early film noir stars Valentina Cortese as Victoria Kowelska, a Polish woman who adopts the identity of a deceased friend so she can come to America after her release from a concentration camp. There, she discovers that she is the godmother of a very wealthy young boy, and stands to inherit a large sum. She also falls for the boy's guardian (Richard Basehart), until she discovers that his motives for courting her aren't what they seem.
Customer Reviews
San Francisco unspoilt.
Made in the days when you could drive and park outside the village shop.
The town is too hilly to walk in (I once tried).
Great B&W shots of the Bay and town. Disturbing film with levels of evil and deceit. Poor start but gets much better.
Worth at least one viewing, more if you are into this genre bigtime.
Warning very annoying anti-piracy film at front.
