Palm Wireless Keyboard with Bluetooth
Simple to set up and was typing in no time. The PDA carrier is a bit flimsy, but should be OK if treated with respect. I found the space bar a bit odd at first due to the fact that it is divided into two parts and your thumb nearly always comes down on the join.
My Palm TX severs the connection with the keyboard when it goes onto standby to save power and the instructions don't highlight this (perhaps other PDA's don't.
On the whole a small price to pay for a computer in your handbag. I very rarely use my laptop any more - well done Palm!
Great Keyboard
I bought this keyboard to use with my Palm TX. It was quick and easy to set up and works really well. The previous reviewer found the space bar a bit fiddly: I have not found this to be a problem. Using the keyboard solves all the niggling problems of the TX touchscreen. Indeed, as the previous reviewer found, this keyboard just about allows the TX to replace your laptop.
Palm Bluetooth Keyboard
The keyboard works well, and is much more easy to use than the docked keyboard, which could be used with a Palm M515 etc.
Weaknesses of the Bluetooth Keyboard include the inconsistent nature of the automatic re-establishment of the connection, taking 3 seconds, between my Palm Tungsten E2 and the Keyboard, such as after the Palm idle time automatic power off. My experience is that manual connection, taking about 15 seconds, is needed in about 25% of attempts.
At the end of a few hundred key strokes, if the cursor control down key is overused, or after similar keying activity, the Palm resets itself and all typing since the last 'Done' is lost. Issuing a 'Done' from time to time avoids too much wasted effort.
Two important symbols missing from the keyboard, when used in Palm OS mode, are the 'pound' sign and the Palm `Short-cut' symbol.
Overall, the products works very well and the longevity of the 2*AAA batteries in the keyboard impressed me. I estimate a usage time in excess of 50 hours. For comparison, the battery in my Palm Tungsten E2 runs down after about 2 hours of intermittent typing at an enthusiastic amateur typing speed.
I recommend this product for simple typing tasks away from a PC, such as on train or plane or in a library. The Palm Keyboard beats a laptop quite easily, as the set up and connection time to the Keyboard is only a few seconds, and the operation is almost silent, without cooling fans cutting in. Shut down of the Palm and Keyboard is similarly a few seconds.
