Synopsis
Hunter S. Thompson didn’t write stories, he lived them. This documentary about a life that was often out of control, and always interesting, captures Thompson’s spirit through stories told by some of the outlaw celebrities he inspired. Nick Nolte, Johnny Depp, and Sean Penn are among the voices who piece together the biography of the man who put Gonzo Journalism on the map.
Customer Reviews
A movie review of a movie review
I am a massive Thompson fan and have seen most of the other documentaries out there and this is the worst. It is like one big movie review for fear and loathing. It is worth buying Breakfast with Hunter and giving this a miss. the only extra element is that it discusses his death but its so rushed and shallow it's not worth it.
Hunter
I enjoyed it, but i'm a big fan of all things Hunter, Unless your with me in that sense don't bother, This plunges into his true self and talks about his personalty within his social group, it's packed with interviews from johnny depp and bill murray and a whole host of multi-coloured uppers and downers..For The Hardened Only.
Not enough Hunter, too much everyone else
Despite access to an immense amount of Hunter footage, this document details only fragments of it, and a lot of other people talking about him, and not enough Hunter himself. And not only that, the narration tells us what we should think, and does not show us. (and it repeats material liberally). Not the send off Hunter deserves. And he would tell you the same.
