Synopsis
An army of 17th century mercenaries discover a peaceful town nestled in a verdant valley which has been left unmolested by the terrible "Thirty Years War." The reaction of the community's denizens to the violent soldiers becomes increasingly hostile. Michael Caine and Omar Sharif lead the cast.

Well worth seeing
I chanced upon this film some 15 years ago on TV. It gripped me immediately. A top line cast, some fine acting, a good storyline, wonderful photography and an excellent musical score. All set against a backdrop of the 30 years war. More recently, I came across the DVD on Amazon. I bought it, watched it and enjoyed it as much as I did the first time. Well worth seeing.
Attention - No subtitles at all in that edition
Considering the variety of European languages, and also the increasing number of people who cherish subtitles even in their own languages, it must be noted that there are no subtitles at all in this edition.
The film itself is quite interesting, though it was badly (and undeservedly) welcomed by the public and the critics at its launch.
Worth making the trip to The Last Valley
The Last Valley is a classic historical drama, very much of its time, but great fun all the same, with an interesting story in a fascinating and complex period of mid-european history. The scenery is probably the real star of the film, but Michael Caine is excellent as usual, give or take the odd dodgy accent, while Omar Shariff is over dramatic, but pulls you in nonetheless. The supporting cast is solid, although the acting of many is distinctly 70's. Well worth a look for those who don't mind a few rough edges, so jump on the time machine and enjoy the ride.
