Average customer review:Product Description
This living history series transports three families back to the south of Wales coalfield of the 1920s. The families swap their modern luxuries for the harsh reality of daily life of a coalmining family, living in coalminers' cottages without heating, running water, washing machines, TV and computers, and of course, for the men, there are long days down the mines.

Coal House
The DVD is the same as the BBC program that was originally shown on BBC Wales and follows the life of a small community of miners and their family - people from modern life cast back into the 1920's, living and working as their fathers would have done generations before.
The program follows an easy line to begin with then throws in some interesting twists such as a lack of work for the miners as genuine illness that effects some of the children during the making of the series.
The program has the effect of drawing you in and making you want to watch more and more of the families lives - almost making me want to live the life myself! I found myself sat for hours and hours every night until I had completed the entire set of DVD's (and I dont watch much TV usually). I know it is a repeat of the broadcast series but I would definately recommend this DVD for not only a mining enthusiast but also anyone that is generally interested in the life and history of the Welsh 1920's.
Looking forward to the next series of the Coal House. Happy customer indeed!
coal house
The tv serise was excelent, but missed some parts. Cant wait to see it all on dvd, well worth it an education for some people who would,nt realise how they worked and lived in the 1920s
Coal House DVD
Excellent DVD- I felt this was one of the more realistic documentaries showing families living as near to possible as 1920's standards. The three families featured are all interesting, and make a massive effort to cope with their situation. They have humour and intelligence.
Looks forward to seeing a DVD produced for the Coal House War years
