Customer Reviews
Excellent Starter Razor
I'm a recent convert to DE shaving , having really known nothing other than 'multi blade' shaving.
Having been recommended a DE Razor due to my Sensitive skin and excessive Razor Burn , i decided to take the leap.
Now - theres a fair few DE Razors out there and my sources told me that not all are created equal - Some are for experienced users only and others are ineffective at best..
I did initially look at the Merkur Futur , however i was advised to stick to the HD Classic for my first Venture into DE shaving.
I'm Several months in now and its a revelation.
The Merkur HD is a perfect first razor. I was expecting a couple of nicks and cuts while i adjusted my Technique , but ive found the HD to be a very forgiving razor.
My Razor burn is now a thing of the past , and my wife informs me that my skins never looked better.
Solid , Weighty and it feels like its built to last a lifetime.
A good purchase.
Don't think about it, just get one
I always hated dry shaving (electric razor), never got a decent shave. Wet shaving with disposable twin/multi blade razors got me fairly close shaves but nothing special, and usually with razor burn. I got a Wilkinson Sword Classic (spotted online while I was looking for an electric toothbrush for my wife) and got some really good shaves with it. Being plastic, the screw thread holding the top on eventually broke, so I decided to go for something longer lasting/more upmarket.
That's how I came to buy the Merkur HD. It was heavily recommended on a lot of the shaving forums. I prefer a shorter handle and the model I'm reviewing here is the 34C. Merkur make a longer handled version, the 38C. There is a slight learning curve to using one bit it's well worthwhile. You will be able (with some practice) to get closer shaves than you could ever get from the plastic perils. Let the razor do the work (no dragging across the face like a Mach3) and you will have no problems, also check out mantic59's videos on YouTube for tutorials.
Women have been pampering themselves for years, now it's our turn. Shaving will take you slightly longer with the Merkur, but turn it from a chore into a pleasure. There are all sorts of potions, lotions, soaps and creams to make shaving that much more enjoyable. Treat yourself to one of these razors, I have and there's no going back. Your wife/girlfriend/partner and your face will all thank you
The AK47 of razors
Having extensively mined eBay for ancient Gilettes and whatnot I can report the sad news: you won't find a better razor than the Merkur HD. Uncompromising in its aesthetics, to say the least, it's nevertheless a perfectly designed piece of kit that will do exactly what you want, perfectly, over and over again. A classic: every man should have one.
