Customer Reviews
not one of my favourites
As with the other early series of the great Two Ronnies the format is more of a variety show than the later shows.
This is not my favourite of the Two Ronnies series, mainly because there are only two of the iconic musical numbers that I love so much - they are "Jehosophat and Jones" and "The Short and Fat Minstrel Show".
There is no running serial though series 3 either.
There are, however, a number of skits on the top TV shows of the time (Upstairs Downstairs, Onedin Line, etc), as well as political and social comments. As always there are the usual "news" items at the beginning and end of each show.
Many of the jokes are not to the standard of the current PC treads, but as a study into the sociological and political aspects of the early 1970s (1973-1974) this box set is a gem.
Not one of the best series, but still worth having.
Two Ronnies Too Wonderful
It is sad to Americans that the Two Ronnie shows are no longer shown. These two great comedians gave us many laughs even though some of the jokes were English centered. What a joy. How lucky the English for having these men regularly causing laughter. Now, if anyone can reissue Picnic by these two loveable loonies, more joy! Thank You UK.
Not just for nostalgia buffs
The quality here is pretty good. By now both Ronnies seemed to be enjoying all their sketches, and there are some lovely ones here, including public information films with non-dating slapstick, with Barker's deadpan voiceover, and parodies of successful TV programmes of the time (the standard of these is far better than, say, French and Saunders' attempts to do the same thing years later). There's no classic serial, and the Pan's People spot every week now seems, well, aimed only at dirty old men. But lots of fun here.
