Synopsis
Chronicling a day in the life of Quick Stop clerk Dante Hicks, Clerks captures the hilarity of the humdrum even as it raises slackerdom to existential proportions. From behind his counter, Dante desperately tries to exert some power over the crazy customers, his own love life and his incorrigible friend and fellow clerk Randal--the type who sees nothing wrong in closing the video shop he works in to go rent movies from a better store.

His name is Sang? As in past tense?
I first saw this film more than a few years ago on filmfour and was so impressed I tracked down and bought the only available copy which was a £17 VHS tape. Though I thought it a worthwhile purchase at the time, had I known that just a couple of months later they'd bring out a 3 disc special edition I probably would have held out a little longer.

What you have on the first disc is the theatrical cut (basically the 'final' version) of Clerks complete with commentary and some other fun bonus features (audition footage, additional scenes), then the second disc houses the original version which was shown at festivals. This cut is probably most notable for its shock alternative ending, though its somewhat less pacey that the later version.

The extras-packed third disc was just brilliant, especially the "Snowball Effect" featurette. It really unravels the underlying structural elements of the film and takes you step by step through the production process. As an aspiring film-maker I found this very insightful, but its great viewing material even if you're just curious how one of the 90s best comedies was made.

Overall, I'd say this package is a must buy for any fan of offbeat comedy or independent films.

Outrageously confident and filthy, first time director Kevin Smith's dazzling comic debut was shot for under $30,000. Easily one of the best comedies of the 90s, this motor-mouthed conversation piece takes place almost entirely at the counter of a local grocer's where O'Halloran, slacker shopkeeper, and best friend Anderson, foul-mouthed assistant at the neighbouring video store, ruminate on life, love and bjobs.

Their discourse on the service industries of the Death Star is a wonder, and a case of mistaken identity with a masturbating tramp will leave you uncertain whether to laugh or vomit.

short but sweet...this movie is not for everyone..but..if you have a twisted sense of humor you will enjoy this one...subversive to the max.. my only question is , if anyone out there knows....is there any reasons vis a vis exrtas, to buy this if you already own the 3 disc clerks x box???
