Follow explorer Bear Grylls and his friend Gilo Cardozo as they prepare to fly over the summit of Mount Everest. They will be strapped onto flimsy paraglide chutes powered by backpack motors, or paramotors as they are know to aficionados. First, Gilo must single-handedly design and build a paramotor that can go a full 3000 metres higher than any other engine, or indeed paramotor, has gone before. Bear takes charge of their survival strategy. The pair face temperatures of -40°C that will instantly freeze exposed flesh, hurricane-force winds that threaten to dash them against the mountain peaks, and very low levels of oxygen. As the day of the flight approaches, they face the reality of the challenge ahead and are beset with machine troubles, failed test flights and a damaged engine. At his lowest ebb, Bear has some uncharacteristic doubts: 'I'd always planned this project to be ambitious but safe; the bottom line is it's ambitious but it's not safe.' Have the pair aimed too high?

Synopsis
Join survival expert Bear Grylls and his fellow explorer Gilo Cardozo, as they prepare for their mission to fly over the summit of Mount Everest with only backpack motors and paraglide chutes. With Bear's extreme survival skills, almost-superhuman endurance and a whole host of resourceful (and occasionally unthinkable) techniques he and Gilo tackle sub-zero temperatures, low levels of oxygen and hurricane-force winds.

Bear Triumphs Again!
This documentary is fantastic. It combines Bear's adventures with the reality of his family life creating a tense undertone of emotion not normally seen in his Born Survivor series. The only thing that stops Mission Everest getting 5 stars is a total lack of any extras. This, thankfully, is fully made up for by 2 men achieving what nobody has managed before and probably never will again. I'd certainly say that reading Bear's everest book about his 1998 attempt on the summit provides a good background to what drives him to do what he does, and it's well worth reading that first. Personally I can't wait to see what BG does next!
Fake? Not this time...
I strongly disagree with all those claiming Bear a fake. Being an avid outdoors man, I have seen the benefits of many things that Bear has taught me through his and many other survival programs (such as Ray Mears). Even though I have never been put into a survival situation, I know for a fact - that these things CAN save your life..
As for the DVD, its a great adventure of Bears attempt to fly over Mount Everest in a Paramotor (a parachute with a propeller attached to it). I myself have done Paragliding, so I know exactly how exhilerating it is (I've been up to 6,500 ft myself) yet Bear and his team mate try to reach 30,000ft...the best powermotor yet can only go to 3,00 ft...
On top of that...neither of their two motors have been tested!
A great adventure...But I do feel for Bears poor teammate...it was clear, Bear was only there for the publicity side of things...
Definately worth a watch
There is no doubt this makes for a nail biting will he / wont he adventure. One the most dangerous attempts yet...I know, I was there!
So to anyone who doubts the authenticy of BG on this one, take it from me there is no question of the acheivement.
