Controversy and ethical correctness collide on the streets of Toronto when Finn, lesbian mother to hell-raising daughter Zelly, comes under fire from pro-life protesters at the abortion clinic where she works. With the stress of having an unruly daughter and a controversial workplace, Finn's girlfriend duly leaves her, only for an unlikely romance to develop shortly afterwards with Eve, the cop who has been assigned as her bodyguard. As tensions begin to escalate between the clinic and the protesters, Zelly becomes increasingly reckless. Yet Finn has kept a secret from Zelly that may just put her on the right track. Problem is, should the truth come out, it will rock the foundations of the genetics industry and put her at the mercy of the pro-lifers, thus putting her in grave danger.

This DVD will also contain, with the participation of directors Laurie Colbert and Dominique Cardona, the addition of an exclusive added extra. A 20-minute excerpt from their award-winning documentary My Feminism. In an era of anti-feminist backlash, this articulate documentary by the makers of Finn's Girl forcefully reminds us that the revolution continues. Powerful interviews with feminist leaders including bell hooks, Gloria Steinem, and Urvsahi Vaid are intercut with documentary sequences to engagingly explore the past and present status of the women's movement. Discussing the unique contributions of second wave feminism, they explore their racial, economic and ideological differences and shared vision of achieving equality for women. An essential component of women's studies curricula, My Feminism introduces feminism's key themes while exposing the cultural fears underlying lesbian baiting, backlash, and political extremism.
Synopsis
This engrossing Canadian drama tackles the sensitive subject of abortion through the novel perspective of a abortion clinic worker and her family. Finn is already struggling to bring up her unruly stepdaughter Zelly after the death of her partner Nancy, when her life is complicated by over-zealous pro-life protesters. A ray of light arrives in the form of Eve, a cop sent to protect Finn from the increasing threat of the demonstrators. But with Zelly becoming more rebellious everyday, how long can Finn keep guarding a secret that will ultimate put them all in danger?

A beautiful and unsettling story made with sensitivity, depth and faultless acting --Gaydar Nation

An intelligent plot
This film is a refreshing change in that it is a "lesbian" film, but with more going on than the simple issue of sexuality. We enjoyed the characterisation and pacing of this tale about the complexities of parenting, the adolescent struggle for independence and identity and the joy of new love.
Finn's girl .....
Hi, although this film has a little bit of a political air in it with referrance to abortions, It's alot more about a childs view having gay/lesbian parents. Being a lesbian myself, with children I found this film interesting, theres no big sex scence in this film, so if your after a sexy movie this isn't for you, however there is a story to this film, so if you want a good story kind of lesbian/gay film then this has a good story line to it.
I would certainly recomend this film to those who are gay/lesbian with children.
