The last fifteen books I read
The Red TentThe Red Tent by Anita Diamant
Buy new: £5.47 / Used from: £0.01
Wonderful story of Dinah - Jacob's only daughter. All women should read this book.
The Silence of the LambsThe Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris
Buy used from: £0.01
A real page turner. Well drawn characters and great twists in the plot - the film gets it more or less spot on.
The Secret Life of BeesThe Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd
Buy new: £4.97 / Used from: £0.43
A nice book - lovely imagery and feel good factor - a bit 'sickly sweet' at times.
Lola RoseLola Rose by Jacqueline Wilson
Buy used from: £0.01
A typical Jacqueline Wilson - cute, clever, no faff. Dealing with domestic violence, single parent families and other difficult issues in a simple and non patronising way.
Utterly Me, Clarice BeanUtterly Me, Clarice Bean by Lauren Child
Buy new: £4.18 / Used from: £0.01
Bright, colourful, funny, witty. I wish I'd written it. I will definitely be reading more of Lauren Child's books.
The Comfort of StrangersThe Comfort of Strangers by Ian McEwan
Buy new: £4.99 / Used from: £0.01
Dark, unsettling, short. The setting is described wonderfully and McEwan captures the Meditteranean feel very well, but the ending is a bit random in my opinion.
I Don't Know How She Does itI Don't Know How She Does it by Allison Pearson
Buy used from: £0.01
Terrible. Contrived, irritating chick-lit. Yuck. How many contemporary references can you cram into a paragraph??? Hated the protagonist, didn't care about her life one bit.
The Lovely BonesThe Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold
Buy new: £3.99 / Used from: £0.01
Fantastic book. Chilling, sad, sorrowful, funny. I wouldn't be surprised if this became a film soon.
Eats shoots and leaves: The Zero Tolerance Approach to PunctuationEats shoots and leaves: The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation by Lynne Truss
Buy used from: £0.01
Quite funny in places, but sometimes annoying and smug. Definitely a 'bathroom book' (ie - to read when you're on the toilet!)
Adventures in a TV NationAdventures in a TV Nation by Michael Moore
Buy new: £7.99 / Used from: £0.01
Americans. You've gotta luv 'em. This book highlights just how dumb some of them really are. Not the most challenging read, but mildly amusing and eye opening.
Life of PiLife of Pi by Yann Martel
Buy new: £5.40 / Used from: £0.01
Vivid, gripping, surreal, moving, lovely. A really good book.
She's Come UndoneShe's Come Undone by Wally Lamb
Buy new: £5.81 / Used from: £0.49
A bit of a plodder. The protagonist isn't very likeable, but she grew on me towards the end. Left me feeling a bit drained.
Red DragonRed Dragon by Thomas Harris
Buy new: £5.97 / Used from: £0.01
Scary!
The Boy Who Lost His FaceThe Boy Who Lost His Face by Louis Sachar
Buy used from: £0.01
Not as good as Holes, but still quite clever.
Heaven EyesHeaven Eyes by David Almond
Buy used from: £0.01
Better than Kit's Wilderness, but not as good as Skellig. Almond writes such ethereal literature.
