My favourite of Roald Dahl’s stories, followed by James and the Giant Peach.

All time favourite children’s story. Set in the Black Forest, two children are sent back to the Middle Ages where they help a man who has been turned into a werewolf and forced to live in the woods.

You could also try Kiki's Delivery Service, Laputa - Castle In The Sky and (for older children/adults), Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away. All directed by Hayao Miyazaki.

This is great adventure story! Set around 18th century Scottish events, notably the "Appin Murder", which occurred in 1752 in the aftermath of the Jacobite Rising.
