Probably Dostoevsky's weakest mature work but I think critics have been unfair to it in some respects: the central character carries on some of the finest tradtiions of the Underground Man.

In my opinion, his worst novel. Indulges in absolutely meaningless sentimentality to such a level of excess that one nearly feels sick.

An absolutely astounding piece of scholarship. In my opinion, this is not only the best Dostoevsky biography: it is also the pinnacle of the literary biography genre
