How to pass MRCP part one
Basic Medical Sciences for MRCP Part 1 (MRCP Study Guides)Basic Medical Sciences for MRCP Part 1 (MRCP Study Guides) by Philippa J. Easterbrook MB BChir BSc(Hons) FRCP DTM&H MPH
Buy new: £23.09 / Used from: £15.00
Easterbrook's reference text is really hard work to get through from cover to cover, so it's best used to illuminate brief answers, particularly when going through the small Pastest 1 - 4 pocketbooks.
Essential Revision Notes for MRCP 2nd EditionEssential Revision Notes for MRCP 2nd Edition by Philip A. Kalra
Buy new: £44.64 / Used from: £19.45
Another important reference text that is best used to expand on your weaker areas after identifying them by MCQs. Good lists and summaries, not enough diagrams / pictures.

The hardest question book around! Good explanations. I recommend using it at the very end of revision, after the other books and web questions. Difficulty is representative of the exam itself.
MRCP 1 Pocket Book 1: Cardiology, Haematology, Respiratory Medicine (Multiple Choice Pocket Book)MRCP 1 Pocket Book 1: Cardiology, Haematology, Respiratory Medicine (Multiple Choice Pocket Book) by Keith Patterson
Buy used from: £5.00
The first of four pocketbooks by Pastest, and possibly the easiest. A good starting point, alongside the online Pastest question bank which is pretty good with lengthy explanations.
MRCP 1 Pocket Book 2: Basic Sciences, Neurology, Psychiatry (Multiple Choice Pocket Book)MRCP 1 Pocket Book 2: Basic Sciences, Neurology, Psychiatry (Multiple Choice Pocket Book) by S. Esmail
Buy new: £13.99 / Used from: £5.00
The psych bit is good. Basic sciences is brief as expected, you need a separate book for that section. In terms of sites, onexamination.com is overrated and easier than the actual exam by far.
MRCP 1 Pocket Book 3: Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Nephrology (Multiple Choice Pocket Book)MRCP 1 Pocket Book 3: Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Nephrology (Multiple Choice Pocket Book) by C. Dayan
Buy used from: £7.50
The third book. Medical-Masterclass.com is another hard question bank [by the RCP but not by the examiners!] which is not as easy to navigate but is good preparation.
MRCP 1 Pocket Book 4: Clinical Pharmacology, Immunology, Rheumatology, Infectious DiseasesMRCP 1 Pocket Book 4: Clinical Pharmacology, Immunology, Rheumatology, Infectious Diseases by M. Pirmomohamed
Buy used from: £5.00
The rheumatology section is brief, and a reader will need to cover this better elsewhere. PassMedicine.com is a free set of questions, with brief summaries that should be used further into revision.
MRCP 1 Basic Medical Sciences: Best of Five Questions and Answers: Best of Five Question and AnswersMRCP 1 Basic Medical Sciences: Best of Five Questions and Answers: Best of Five Question and Answers by Philippa Easterbrook
Buy new: £16.98 / Used from: £8.64
Really good. Should be used with / after the second Pastest pocket book, with Easterbrook's textbook to refer to. Nice stuff on genetics and those piddly bits of the cell cycle that seem to matter.
Last Minute MRCP 1 Practice QuestionsLast Minute MRCP 1 Practice Questions by W.Stephen Waring
Buy new: £17.49 / Used from: £13.20
I like this book a lot. The ophthalmology section is great. Questions on one side, answers on the reverse, with questions grouped into specialties. Use after the Pastest books, and before Rees'.

Revision is painful. Life seems bleak. Watch this, and everything will seem a little better - the best film ever.
