![]() | Beowulf: Verse Translation: A Verse Translation (Norton Critical Editions) by S Heaney
Buy new: £9.48 / Used from: £6.50 The 'Heaneywulf'; the essays at the back are the most useful, however Heaney has 'Irishzed' his translation. Works as an example of how translation alters to match its time.

![]() | Beowulf (Manchester medieval studies)
Buy new: £7.44 / Used from: £3.75 A page-facing translation, the best, in my opinion. Rather than attempt to re-poeticize Beowulf, this edition keeps it in straightforward prose, which keeps a better sense of the original narrative.

![]() | Beowulf: A Student Edition
Buy new: £16.49 / Used from: £8.00 The student version. Anyone translating Beowulf would do well to use this edition. The side glosses are immeasurably helpful, and the glossary is also quite good. I refer to this frequently.

![]() | Beowulf: A Prose Translation (Norton Critical Editions) by N Howe
Buy new: £7.95 / Used from: £4.66 The supplementary material in this edition is useful, but can be found elsewhere. I personally prefer the Swanton in terms of reading and quick minor textual reference.

![]() | Beowulf: Parallel Text
Buy used from: £0.55 Chickering does a good translation here. However, getting hold of a decent copy may be a little tricky.
|
![]() | Beowulf and the Fight at Finnsburg. Edited ... by Fr. Klaeber. Third edition, with first and second supplements by Friedrich Klaeber
The ultimate edition. Kaleber's 3rd edition has been indispensable to me. The crossreferencing sections saved me a lot of time, and the glossary is extensive. Try to get a hold of a copy if you can.
