At 1536 pages long, this is a major investment of your time. But it's so worth it.
Innocent TraitorInnocent Traitor by Alison Weir

I'm a big fan of Alison Weir's historical biographies, but I found her first novel a big disappointment.

Magical realism. This inspired 'The House of Spirits' and, while I enjoyed this, I have to confess to liking the Allende novel better.

The Great Gatsby (Penguin Modern Classics)The Great Gatsby (Penguin Modern Classics) by F Scott Fitzgerald

This was good, although the characters seemed very alien somehow.
Shakespeare's Sonnets (Arden Shakespeare.Third Series)Shakespeare's Sonnets (Arden Shakespeare.Third Series) by William Shakespeare

I love the sonnet form. It's so accessible somehow. These are a great starting point if you've just developed an interest in poetry. Universal, beautiful, succint and almost catchy.

Another page-turner. A silly premise, I suppose. But who cares?
The Wizard of Oz (Puffin Classics)The Wizard of Oz (Puffin Classics) by L. Frank Baum
