	The Singles Vol. 2 by James Brown James Brown influence on music is huge. Great dancefloor favourites and cool ballads. Includes "I Don't Mind"and "Shout And Shimmy", covered by The Who. Don't miss James Brown drumming on Night Train
	The Best Of Booker T. & The MG's by Booker T. & the MG's Buy new: £4.88 / Used from: £2.84 The coolest instrumental band there is (except for the Skatalites...). Green Onions is a classic, but they've got other bullets on their cannon, like Groovin', Mo' Onions and Soul Dressing.
	Dance Party & Watchout! by Martha Reeves & The Vandellas Buy used from: £22.09 Two albums by my favourite motown girl group. The first one is Dance Party, a classic motown sound. The second is Watchout!, released in 1967. This one sounds more like 70's soul.
	That Stubborn Kinda Fellow & How Sweet It Is To Be Loved By You by Marvin Gaye Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £6.97 Though his latter carreer is much more recognizable, he was one of the top men in Motown records, he wrote a lot of songs for a lot of people. Includes "Baby Don't You Do It", covered by The Who.
	Walking the Dog by Rufus Thomas Buy used from: £7.52 Once called "The World's Oldest Teenager", Rufus Thomas has a very fun, happy, tongue-in-cheak sound. Ooh Poo Pah Doo used to be on the High Numbers (better known as The Who) set list.
	Mercy!/Seesaw by Don Covay & the Goodtimers Buy new: £18.39 Great underrated soul star. His influence on rock music is evident, specially on the Stones. See where Mick Jagger got his vocal style and mannerisms.
	Shotgun & Soul Session by Jr. Walker & The All Stars Another instrumental combo, similar to Booker T. & The MG's. Groovy.
	Chess Club Rhythm and Soul by Various Artists Buy new: £11.98 / Used from: £7.24 Soul collection by Chess. Almost every tune is a must have, like Jack McDuff's "Ain't It', Marlena Shaw's take on "Let's Wade In The Water" and the hilarious Pigmeat Markham's "Here Comes The Judge"
	Chess Soul Sisters by Various Artists Buy new: £2.98 / Used from: £4.50 Another soul collection by Chess, focused on their female singers. Etta James is the high point on the album, but all the sisters here are amazing.
	Mod Jazz Vol.1: 60's Discotheque Dancers for the Cool School by Various Artists Buy new: £11.98 / Used from: £8.49 MOD came from Modernists. Good compilation of killer smoky grooves. Lots of hammond.
	Screamin' by Jack McDuff with Kenny Burrell Buy new: £13.19 More jazz. The best hammond organ player, in my opinion. (Though some people prefer his master, Jimmy Smith).
	Small Faces by Small Faces Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £3.69 While The Who mod look was faked, the guys from Small Faces were real mods. But their debut is their only mod album, really.
	My Generation [Deluxe Edition] by The Who Buy new: £8.68 / Used from: £7.43 I couldn't leave this classic out of my mod list. Mod or not, it's a ground-breaking debut, my favourite Who album. This deluxe edition has lots of bonus tracks, like the ballad "Anytime You Want Me"
	Singles A's & B's by The Artwoods Buy new: £14.19 I don't know if they were mods, but their repertoire is pretty much mod-friendly, mostly R&B. Founded by Arthur Wood (Ronnie Wood's brother), with Jon Lord (Deep Purple) on keyboards.
	Get the picture by The Pretty Things Buy new: £10.98 / Used from: £6.47 If the Rollings Stones were "the dirty beatles", The Pretty Things were "the dirty rolling stones". Not specifically mod, but some tunes could easily spice a mod party. Quite heavy for 1965.
	Our Music Is Red - With Purple Flashes by The Creation Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £3.99 Again, not really mod, although people always call everything from the 60's as "Mod". Some of the songs sounds a lot like The Who. Making Time is one of my all time favourite songs. London, baby!
	Rev Up!!: The Best Of Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels by Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £5.70 This is a bit rare, and very mod-friendly. They are an american band, I don't know much about them, but the have lots of versions of mod classics.
	Guns of Navarone - the Best of by Skatalites No mod list would be complete without some ska. Here's the masters, the coolest band on earth.
	Trojan Ska Box Set by Various Artists Buy new: £9.98 / Used from: £7.50 Listening to early ska, it's easy to realize why the mods got into it so easily.
	King Of Ska by Prince Buster Buy used from: £18.24 Prince Buster is the self-proclaimed King of Ska. He's not far from the truth. Almost on the same level as The Skatalites, in my opinion.
	The Godfather of Ska by Laurel Aitken F*cking genius. Get it. Laurel Aitken and Prince Buster are the greatest names of ska.
	Rudy Got Soul: The Complete Early Years 1963-1968 by Desmond Dekker Buy new: £11.98 / Used from: £7.96 Desmond Dekker's early ska period is fantastic. There's a lot of rocksteady in this cd too, including the skinhead classic 007 (Shanty Town).
	Trojan Mod Reggae Box Set by Various Artists Buy new: £9.98 / Used from: £28.00 Some ska, some rocksteady, some R&B. All things Mod. Includes cool versions of Green Onions and Watermelon Man. Don't miss the hilarious version of Baby Elephant Walk by Baba Brooks (Skatalites)
	The Trojan Skinhead Reggae by Various Artists Buy new: £9.98 / Used from: £6.00 Not everyone knows it, but the first skinheads were mods. Stomp your boots listening to this great collection of rocksteady and skinhead reggae.
