Anna's amazing reads - for pleasure and for study
The Handmaid's Tale (Contemporary classics)The Handmaid's Tale (Contemporary classics) by Margaret Atwood
Buy new: £4.97 / Used from: £0.01
So imaginative - advertised as Sci-fi, but crime, romance, fantasy & realism all in one. Mildy tough read. So clever - best book ever!
The Da Vinci CodeThe Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown
Buy new: £5.02 / Used from: £0.01
Really easy read, but very clever and intricate. The plot is the novel - don't read it if you're looking for a beautifully written book with amazing vocab, this is all about plot, plot, plot!
Fatal VoyageFatal Voyage by Kathy Reichs
Buy new: £5.46 / Used from: £0.01
Totally cool: again, an easy read, but the plot is superb. All her books follow a similar formula, but this doesn't make them any less exciting.
The Murder of Roger Ackroyd (Poirot)The Murder of Roger Ackroyd (Poirot) by Agatha Christie
Buy new: £4.97 / Used from: £1.27
Agatha Christie in general is amazing, particularly Poirot. This novel however, 'broke the boundaries' of the detective story genre - so many twists!
The Oxford Shakespeare: Twelfth Night, or What You Will (Oxford World's Classics)The Oxford Shakespeare: Twelfth Night, or What You Will (Oxford World's Classics) by William Shakespeare
Buy used from: £0.08
No book list is complete without the KING of language,Shakespeare.I love Twelfth Night for it's sheer absurdity, but all his plays are fab.His use of punning & other word plays has never been matched
Pride and Prejudice (Oxford World's Classics)Pride and Prejudice (Oxford World's Classics) by Jane Austen
Buy used from: £0.01
Although I often find the plots of Austen novels slow, Pride & Prejudice is so beautiful and simple you get totally caught up in it.
The Revenger's Tragedy (Revels Student Editions)The Revenger's Tragedy (Revels Student Editions) by Cyril Tourneur
Buy new: £4.99 / Used from: £2.78
I love Jacobean Revenge plays, they are so dark and exotic. You know everyone's going to die by the end, but it's how they get there that interests. Misfortune, corruption and fatal flaws abound!
BirdsongBirdsong by Sebastian Faulks
Buy new: £4.88 / Used from: £0.01
This is amazing - quite a difficult read and very emotional, but so, so descriptive that it stimulates all the senses, you imagine yourself there.
Songs of Innocence and of Experience: Shewing the Two Contrary States of the Human Soul (Oxford Paperbacks)Songs of Innocence and of Experience: Shewing the Two Contrary States of the Human Soul (Oxford Paperbacks) by William Blake
Buy new: £5.79 / Used from: £2.25
I did this for A Level and again for my degree - so deceptively simple. There is a tendancy to read too much into poetry at times - but Blake is so forthright here, you don't need to guess.
My Sister's KeeperMy Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult
Buy used from: £0.01
Buy it, just buy it! An amazing, emotional story, and well written too. This is the second Picoult i've read, I will be reading the rest. All deal with a moral struggle in a sensitive way.
Angels and DemonsAngels and Demons by Dan Brown
Buy new: £5.07 / Used from: £0.01
Much, much cleverer and more shocking than the Da Vinci Code. Gripping - I ended up reading it in one go!
The PactThe Pact by Jodi Picoult
Buy used from: £0.01
My second favourite Picoult novel, and roll on reading the rest! I particularly love the way she moves between the past and the present, keeps things exciting as it gives you little bits of extra info
