Would like to learn more about Japanese cinema? Me too, and that is the reason why I`m writing this guide: to have a list of movies I want to watch. This is a work in progress. Enjoy it :)

Yasujiro Ozu/ If you want a great general introduction to Japanese, search for "Asian cinema" in www.youtube.com. You´ll find chapters of an excellent BBC short documentary called "Asian invasion".

Mikio Naruse (1905-1969) was a Japanese film director, writer and producer who directed some 89 films spanning from the end of the silent era (1930) through the sixties (1967).

Shohei Imamura was born in Tokyo on September 1926, and died on May 2006. He was a Japanese film director. Imamura was the first Japanese director to win two Palme d'Or awards.

Hayao Miyazaki was born on January 5, 1941 in Tokyo, Japan. He is a director of animated films.

Otomo Katsuhiro was born on April 1954. He is a Japanese manga artist and director.

Shunji Iwai was born on January 1963 in Sendai, Japan. He is a Japanese film director/video artist, writer and documentarian.

Ryuhei Kitamura was born in Osaka, Japan, on May 30, 1969. He is a Japanese film director growing in popularity in Japan and in the international Japanese film community.

Takashi Miike was born on August 1960. He is a highly prolific and controversial Japanese filmmaker.
