Product Description

ADHD (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder) is now recognised as the commonest cause of learning and behavioural difficulties in school-aged children. The symptoms are many and varied; they may include poor concentration, forgetfulness, poor organisation, impulsivity, restlessness, poor social skills, learning difficulties, low self-esteem, and defiant behaviour. Despite growing awareness of ADHD among parents and health professionals, ADHD is still widely misunderstood.

In ADHD: The Facts Dr Mark Selikowitz, a consultant developmental paediatrician with extensive experience of treating children with developmental problems, provides information that is of practical relevance to parents in understanding their child s difficulties and in helping to overcome them. The book contains detailed explanations of the cause of ADHD, its nature, and the treatments of the condition that have proved effective over time. It includes up-to-date information on ADHD
and new developments in the understanding of conditions that often co-exist with it. The book also deals with the problems experienced by adults with ADHD. It provides information on how ADHD is diagnosed, on conventional and alternative therapies, and on ways of assisting children in developing improved behaviour, self-esteem, and academic results.

ADHD: The Facts will be of invaluable assistance to parents of children with ADHD. It will also be of great value to professionals such as teachers, psychologists, speech therapists, occupational therapists, and doctors wanting an authoritative, up-to-date, and practical review of this important subject.

Great book5
I wish I had read this book years ago. My son has ADHD and this book tells it in a way you can understand.

A good informative read5
Having read lots of books about ADHD it was great to find one which was so easy to read (and understand!).
Lots of books you read are highly emotive and seem to want to talk you into the authors way of thinking (ie to medicate or not to medicate), this books presents you with the facts and information you need to make your own informed decisions.
If you are involved in the life of anyone with ADHD I would certainly recomend you read this book

Excellent, clear introduction to ADHD5
There are lots of books on the market about ADHD but this is one of the best at explaining the emotional and behavioural difficulties that ADHD children face. It also convincingly explains the biological basis of ADHD - a crucial factor given the widespread belief, even among the medical profession, that ADHD childrens' behaviour is really somehow 'your fault'. Though the book discusses all the critical elements of ADHD in some detail it does so in a clear and precise way. I was able to read it in an afternoon and came away with a far better understanding of my son's behaviour. If you suspect your child has ADHD you will need a book like this to deal with the level of ignorance and disbelief you will discover among doctors, teachers and other people. Highly recommended.
