Synopsis
Most people consume an abundance of highly processed foods that acidify the body. As a result, they are afflicted with health problems ranging from minor skin irritations, chronic fatigue, back pain and depression to arthritis, ulcers and osteoporosis. To enjoy optimum health, the body needs balanced quantities of alkaline and acid substances. In "The Acid-Alkaline Diet for Optimum Health", naturopath and detoxification expert, Christopher Vasey, shows how a simple change in diet to restore your acid-alkaline balance can result in vast improvements in health. Discusses the role of enzyme supplements, prebiotic and probiotic complexes and antioxidants in neutralising and eliminating acids. Addresses the relationship of proper hydration to essential enzyme activity and acid elimination. and Outlines a sample alkaline detoxification diet. With two new chapters, this updated and expanded second edition provides the latest information on proper hydration and de-acidification, important alkalising supplements and how to eliminate the body's accumulated acids through intestinal cleansing. It, also, includes a new, detailed example of an alkaline detoxifying diet.

Rather than organising alkaline and acid foods based on their chemical composition, Vasey categorises foods by their effect on the body, explaining that some foods, such as fruits, can have either an alkalising or an acidifying effect, depending on who eats them. He describes how to determine your acid levels and how to design a diet best suited for your particular health needs.

Customer Reviews

At last a solution to my skin problems!5
I had nasty skin issues on my neck and shoulders for nearly two years and the doctors were at a loss as to what to do - aside from the usual steroids. 6 weeks after reading this book and changing my diet I now have proper skin back and no more sleepless nights! This book helped me understand some of the causes on my problems and although the diet is not easy to stick to it's worth it as my skin is so much better. If you suffer from skin rashes which seem to come and go and may be related to food give this book a go.

Clear and convincing book5
I found this book to be very convincing and fairly easy to follow. It was not demanding a total change of lifestyle like some books on pH dieting.

very interesting reading.4
This book has helped me understand how some foods would make me feel jaded even though they were so-called healthy foods.
The author explains that some people have problems digesting certain acids, which applys to me.
Some advice the author suggests may not work for everybody.I have read Metabolic Typing by William Wolcott, and he say's that for a 'protein type' person, meat is alkalising and vegetables are acidic. Therefore 'some' people need more protein then veg 70/30%.
This author recommends more veg then meat,so individuals need to find what works best for them.Almonds are recommended, but they give me dry skin every time!Dehydrating.Anything that dehydrates you can't be good for the kidneys.
This book has helped me eliminate certain foods/wine(sulfites) from my diet,so it was well worth the small cost.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who has had kidney stones.
