Amazon.co.uk Review
Zachary Levi was born to play Chuck. A computer nerd who finds himself thrust into the role of a Government secret agent, it’s a career-making role in a television show that’s got plenty to offer, whether you’re along for the action or the comedy.
Every episode from Chuck’s first season is gathered together in this set, and thus we get to see how a geek effectively became a wannabe-Jack Bauer. It goes without saying that Chuck has a lot of fun with its premise, and it happily asks you to suspend your disbelief as plausibility quickly goes out of the window. But so what? For when the action and comedy are as strong as they are with Chuck, that proves to be no price to pay whatsoever. Mix in the surprisingly high production values and the very witty scripts, and you have a surprise hit of a show that’s hard not to warm to.
One of the chief reasons for this is Levi in the title role, but Chuck also boasts good supporting turns from the likes of Adam Baldwin and Yvonne Strahovski. It also packs a surprising amount into its 13 episodes, and displays an ambition and verve that serves the show exceedingly well. What’s more, it also leaves you positively thirsting for more. Highly recommended. --Jon Foster
DVD Description
Chuck is the new hit TV show from executive producer, Josh Schwartz (The O.C.) and executive producer-director McG (Charlie's Angels). This is a one-hour, action-comedy series about Chuck Bartowski (Zachary Levi, Less Than Perfect), a computer geek who is catapulted into a new career as the government's most vital secret agent. When Chuck opens an e-mail subliminally encoded with government secrets, he unwittingly downloads an entire server of sensitive data into his brain. Now, the fate of the world lies in the unlikely hands of a guy who works at an electronics store. Instead of fighting computer viruses, he must now confront assassins and international terrorists.
Synopsis
Chuck Bartowski, ace computer geek at Buy More, is not in his right mind. That's a good thing. Ever since he unwittingly downloaded stolen government secrets into his brain, action, excitement and a cool secret agent girlfriend have entered his life. It's a bad thing, too. Because now Chuck is in danger 24/7. Executive producers Josh Schwartz (The O.C.) and McG (Charlie's Angels, We Are Marshall) merge techno-gadgetry, martial-arts smack-downs, narrow escapes and gorgeous spies in short shorts into this action comedy about a millennium Everyguy. Think James Bond in a sub-compact. Think Jason Bourne with a pocket protector.

Great...fun...clever
Escape to Chuck.
No doubt the idea is preposterous, but the human brain is only 18% used - may be it could be used to store more. What makes this great is the script and the characters. The key characters seem to have had lots of fun and are spot on. Even the side characters (Chuck's work mates) are great.
You need to have an inside knowledge of the Star Wars / Sci-fi / Video game generation to spot some of the great one liners.
Adam Baldwin's snarling NSA agent is pure genius.
Look forward to the next series.
Pure escapist joy!
Taking the secret world of the spy and turning it on its head, Chuck (Zachary Levi in a career-making turn) is all about a nerdy sales assistant who one day unwittingly has all of the CIA and NSA's secret files downloaded into his brain. Now a walking database of informative espionage, he must be protected at all costs as he slowly finds himself being dragged further and further into his handlers' (the ever excellent Adam Baldwin and the extremely capable Yvonne Strahovski) world of danger, double crossing and occasional death.
Well there's the blurb out of the way.
This show has everything: humour, action, romance, twists, lies, excitement and things that go boom! Levi is frankly excellent, and in this casting Schwartz has managed not only to nail his demographic, but also make the character of Chuck almost universally likeable. Levi is so endearing that you are constantly rooting for him in life, love and laughs. He is matched by an excellent supporting cast. Adam Baldwin is cranky as ever and Yvonne Strahovski impresses not only on the eyes but also in terms of her character. Sarah, and particularly her relationship with Chuck, proves to be nearly central to everything. Although seen through Chuck's eyes, she is bound up in everything as the agency member increasingly torn between duty and desire. Sarah Lancaster is brilliant as Chuck's concerned sister, and Ryan McPartlin provides ample comic relief as her fiancee. The staff of Chuck's workplace - the Buy More - are all superbly cast, with Joshua Gomez's Morgan working the geek bromance comedy with effortless ease.
The concept is ridiculous, the situations often laughable; but this is the finest piece of escapist television I've seen in a while. The action is good enough to appease set-piece junkies. The comedy, whilst not perhaps always laugh-out-loud, is certainly well timed. The relationships between the characters and the onscreen chemistry is spot on. Slick, well executed and genre-spanning. Chuck is a well worthy addition to your boxset library. Let's just hope Season 2 gets released quickly over here on dvd too!
Rated 15? Should be U
I dont know quite how this warrants a 15 rating, it's excellent family entertainment. I watched the DVD with my kids (8 + 9) and they loved it.
It's a great show, just the sort of thing to sit down on a Friday night with the family and happily watch together.
it moves along at a good pace too, and after the episode mission is complete there's still plenty of entertainment as you find out how everyones relationships are moving along.
