very good and usefull
I've ordered this little gadget for my paragliding activities. It came very fast and it works just like it says on de advert, giving me an idea of how is the wind conditions in any time. It is just a shame that it doesn't come with mount strips or anything to attatch it to my wing harness, anyway I can always keep it hanged on my neck by the lanyard. Good gadget, cheap price...

Fair to good if you just need an indicator of speed
The HP816 device itself is quite small (1.5 inches by 3 inches), and therefore it is easy to keep in your pocket. It also comes with a battery and is therefore ready to go.

In use, pressing the 'mode' button switches it on and pressing both 'mode' and 'set' together switches it off. The temperature is taken from a small thermocouple in a small hole adjacent to the enclosed spinner.

In the view of the reviewer, a key missing item is a small fabic case to store it in when in your pocket - although a small lanyard is included long enough to go around the neck.

In use, the HP816 measures wind speed easily and it can be set to metres per sec/KMH/feet per minute/knots/MPH.

Without an accurate reference source, calibration of the device to verify accuracy was not posible. For verifying the ground wind speed is approximately 25 knots or higher (for glider launch), it is good enough. It may be possible to check accuracy from a moving vehicle (and also GPS as a second source). Using all three, an average calibration should be possible.

Impressed
This little gadget is the size of a mobile phone, compact and easy to use. The included case is sturdy enough not to fall apart with general use. The wind speeds appear to be accurate; I've not been able to check the wind chill as it's not been cold enough since I bought it. Recommended for hill walkers, kite flyers and probably good for paragliders etc.
