Product Description

The Suunto Gekko is an ideal choice for sports divers who do not require PC interface interoperability or simulation features. The Gekko can be used with both air and nitrox, and it is designed to give the specifics of any diving situation, including decompression, at a glance.Suunto Gekko uses the Suunto Reduced Gradient Bubble Model (RGBM) decompression model and has a userreplaceable battery and adjustable metric/imperial units. It is equipped with a super bright phosphorescent display that can be charged with a dive torch. This ensures that you can easily view the display in dark conditions for extensive periods of time.Whether diving in familiar waters or exploring unknown oceans, safety is essential. Suunto Gekko is packed with solutions enabling safe and responsible decisions underwater. The depth, time and decompression measurement assure that you know precisely how long you have spend in the depths, how deep you are, when you have to surface and how fast you can do it. This way you can maximize the diving performance without jeopardizing your safety. The extensive memory functions enable you to keep track of your past dives and through them you can monitor your progress and plan your training accordingly.Easytouse push buttons and a straightforward menu structure make Suunto Gekko simple to operate. The extensive logbook memory stores up to 50 hours of dive profiles and logbook data, including the dive start time and date, dive time, the maximum depth attained and the temperature at maximum depth. Additionally, the dive history keeps track of up to 999 dives and 999 dive hours, as well as the maximum depth ever reached. Both ascent rate and available nodecompression time are displayed graphically with clear colorcoded indicators. Visual and audible alarms are given when necessary. You can also enable maximum depth and dive time alarms.

Great first or second dive computer5
Buying a dive computer isn't easy. Originally I though a watch style computer would be right for me. After using a GEO for a while I realised that it wasn't a very good watch and wasn't a very good dive computer. I never got the hang of the menus and couldn't change the gas percentage for nitrox diving; the display was too small and buttons a little too fiddly when wearing gloves.

The Gekko can be used simply by jumping in the water. The display is a reasonable size and fairly obvious. I use it for the occasional decompression dive but generally follow the no-deco minutes remaining to call the ascent. At more modest depths I usually run low on air before decompression becomes an issue.

The Gekko shares many feature with its more expensive Sunnto cousins. The menus are easy to follow so setting an oxygen percentage is easy. When diving with air I leave it set to Nitrox 21 which makes switching back to Nitrox 32 easier. The dive history is relatively easy to review and one can usually find someone who knows how to configure a Sunnto if you get stuck.

A feature missing from the Gekko is a backlight. I haven't found this to be a problem in dark and deepish UK waters. On night dives the display can be read after 'charging' the display by holding a torch directly over the face.

There is no PC integration with the Gekko. This is one of those features that sound useful but frankly it's not missed.

The safety stop kicks in at 6m. This is a bit of a pain for BSAC divers who do there stop at 6m so 6.1m is not considered part of the stop. We generally do our stops at 5.5m to get round this. Those who try at 6m are usually floating around for 5 minutes rather than the usual 3. PADI divers who stop at 5m won't find this an issue.

It's all you need for your first 100 or so dives. Those wishing to do tec diving will need to be able to switch gas mixtures during a dive and the Gekko can't do this. Those who don't want to go deeper than 30 to 35 meters will be happy with the Gekko well after 100 dives.

Suunto Gekko, functional and easy to use!5
I have been diving for a couple of years now and I was looking to purchase my first dive computer. I wanted one that was easy to use and that provided the basic functions - no frills or complicated options. I felt that as a beginner, these would actually be a distraction rather than a help at 40m.

I chose the Gekko because it appeared to fit my criteria as well as it came from a reliable brand such as Suunto.

The package arrived on time and the item was as promised. I have used it a few times and it appears to be just perfect for me. Price is reasonable too.

Excellant starter diving computer5
Bought for my two boys to dive with and is brilliantly simple. Much easier to see your depth on this than on the depth guage off your regs.
Simple and not expensive if you loose it!!
