Synopsis
Every workplace has to comply with an extensive range of health and safety rules and regulations. In the last 30 years, the obligations and duties placed upon employers in this complex area have ballooned. With more legal claims being made daily, the price for failing to comply, whether through fines or claims by employees, can be high. This is a handy 'one-stop' guide for anyone responsible for health and safety issues in the workplace. Revised and updated for this fifth edition, it sets out the background legal essentials and provides succinct, practical advice on what measures to take. This guide covers: your legal obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act; preparing your own health and safety policy document; what to do when an accident occurs; how to produce your own risk assessment; dangers of manual handling and VDU work; health surveillance; insurance provisions; emergency procedures; how to defend against Health and Safety Executive prosecutions.

One-stop Guide indeed!5
I'm responsible for the OS&H programme at my workplace and it was a good guide for implementing the programme. Its instructions are clear and it is very easy reading and the price is a giveaway! I recommend this book to any middle manager, HR manager, safety committee member, or anyone who is interested in gaining knowledge in the area without entering the classroom.

Essential for the workplace5
Twenty years ago and before, nobody really bothered much about health and safety. Nowadays it seems to be all one ever hears about, even to the extent of becoming extremely irritating, with stories of the "health and safety police" abounding. However, like it or not, these rules and regulations exist and if you run even the smallest of companies and have responsibility for people other than yourself, then you need to be fully aware of the requirements expected of you within the workplace. This handily-sized book will provide with all the essentials you need to be taking care of to ensure that the afore-mentioned "police" don't come knocking on your door !
