Average customer review:
Double DVD Set featuring Experts given honest appraisals of T-Rex from 1970 to 1977. This is as it says "A Critical Review" so it isn't full of people saying everything is "Wonderful". I am one of the 'Experts' giving some Honest Fan Views. Did I really say that on camera about 'Jeepster'??? Well it's what most of us Girls were thinking :-) Written by Fee Warner for TAG

Inside T.rex is out1
I wish I had never bought this one. As one of the original Marc Bolan & T.Rex fans, I received this DVD with some excitement being that there is very little worthy T.rex information out on DVD. Alas, it turned out to be nothing more than interview snippets of various critics opinions, be they fans or officials like BP Fallon. Although being fun to see BP and hear his views and opinions, I found the others who contributed had nothing much of interest to say other than things that as a fan I already knew and felt and to be honest, some seemed misinformed. All this interspersed with film snippets that as a fan I have already got or seen better versions without the frames and crossfades that appeared on this DVD.Perhaps the only worthy thing is the glossy paged booklet and packaging giving a vague synopsis of each T.Rex album. The Born to Boogie DVD set is still the winner regarding doing Marc Bolan any justice on DVD.

Overkill From the Critics2
As a fan of all things Bolan, I found this to be a somewhat disappointing purchase. Maybe I should have done some homework before buying this, but there just wasn't enough footage of the great man himself, especially on the 2nd disc. For much of the running time I had to sit and endure the endless babbling of various critics.

I also found myself at odds with the majority of their comments, many of whom (with the exception of BP and a couple of genuine T.Rex fans) were quite obviously just quoting from Bolan books. The only highlight for me was the track by track review of each album in the booklet, but again, these were just the opinions of the critics.

In comparison to some of the comprehensive VHS releases of years ago, I despair that a definitive Bolan collection on DVD has yet to hit the market. Where has all this footage disappeared to??? Marc's fanbase is surely big enough to justify better.

Damned if you do and damned if you don't1
I was also disappointed. Some of the analysis was crass - that the rep of the T.Rex Action Group thinks Teenage Dream was inferior to the Sweet's Rampage is shallow in the extreme. Bolan was always criticised for sounding the same - and when he makes the changes on Zinc Alloy he slagged off for not continuing glam from three years earlier!
