About Time!5
Apart from some well overdue recognition from the British Music Industry for his valuable contribution to popular music, I can't believe how long Marc Bolan fans have had to wait for some sort of worthwhile DVD release. Other than the occasional 'dodgy' fan club releases, official releases such as Born to Boogie and the MARC shows here, have only started to appear recently. However, it has been worth the wait. The beautifully restored 'Born to Boogie' was a real treat and hopefully should be enough to prove to the majority of 'musically intelligent' people how ahead of the game he was compared with the other 'cash-in' artists of the time. The MARC shows will not disappoint either. I am puzzled because Marc's career was far from decline as has been suggested. In fact it was well on the rise again after the fantastic 'Dandy in the Underworld' album, which was when this series first appeared on our screens. With a successful career under his belt Marc was, in fact, a highly respected artist by then and could have picked just about anyone to appear on this show with him. Instead he wisely decided to give some ‘then’ unknown bands a chance, such as Generation X and Boomtown Rats.

Fate, on the other hand, was not so kind and Marc died shortly before the final program was broadcast. The production is typical of pop shows of the time, but if you can see through that you will be witnessing some of the last great performances of this musical legend. For me it brings back some sad memories as well. I have seen some pretty good bands since the seventies but nothing comes near to stirring the musical senses like Marc Bolan and T.Rex did!

Not quite what you bargained for3
I bought this practically salivating at the thought of not only seeing all of Bolan's performances for the show, but also at seeing up and coming bands like The Jam and The Damned strut their stuff! The icing on the cake would have been to get hold of Bowie's performance of 'Heroes' as well.

Unfortunately, all but Bolan's input has found the 'cutting room' floor and what you are left with, primarily,is the man himself miming to pre-recorded backing tracks made with the latest incarnation of the band.

As a period piece it has interest and value. The extras are quite good and include a cracking version of 'Dandy In The Underworld' from TV show Get It Together. Live, to boot!

As this item has been marketed as the 'Complete Series' I was disappointed to find it only a compilation.

Re-born to boogie5
Well well, the MARC shows finally gets it's first official release on DVD. Not quite, as previously mentioned only Marc's performances survive this particular release. You might think that most Bolan fans would be delighted that it IS just Marc we have here?....WRONG. The show should have been made available in it's entirety as the line ups (if you don't count the dodgy guests like, stephenie de sykes and jamie wild..who? exactly!)
were quite impressive for a time when alot of punk or new wave bands couldn't get air time on national T.V. The Boomtown Rats, Hawkwind, Generation X, Bowie, Eddie and the Hot Rods, Roger Taylor from Queen, Radiostars, Thin Lizzy and more....this release could have been so much better than what we have. Being a Huge Bolan fan myself i applaud that this has finally become available even without the guests but it would have been so much better had they been included.
Marc's performances reflect his joy at being back on track and being slim again and full of energy (even if he did over camp it) but you can't deny he was having fun! just look at that cheeky grin that keeps punctuating his performances. Marc was on his way back and a second series was planned for 78 cut short by Marc's tragic death in sept 77, in fact the last two shows aired after Marc's death. One gem remains at the end of this DVD and thats Marc and Bowie performing together for a live jam with Marc falling off the stage at the end much to Davids delight!....great fun....still get it...Marc still boogies!
