wonderful documentary5
I already have a few of these types of releases but still like to check out new ones. This is presented very well with a lovely hard back style book with some pics even I've not seen before & great info from various friends of Marc who are featured in DVD. Must say has very small snips it of Marc singing but I loved seeing some rare concerts footage amoung this DVD. What is said maybe said as 'much the same as before' but it does have much new info I found very interesting & helped me understand the pop/rock icon better. Standing on it's own I say it is worth every penny to new fans, amoung the others already available can say it is just as good even better in some cases & worth adding to any real fans collection. The 72 page book I read in a day found it fantastic the doc was seen on channel 4 but 100 times better with no ad breaks.

Good for interviews but not for music4
I received this as an Xmas present (after hints) and thought I would make some comments on it.

It comes with a built in book of about 70 pages with some photo's usual career history and an analysis of all the albums (along with the Unchained and alternative releases) written by Dave Thompson. For the most part accurate there are some mistakes (Marie Callas died the same day as Bolan - Not Presley as in the book) but for the main part it's a workable synopsis of the Career. Now for the DVD the usual suspects are interviewed including Bill Legend, Rolan and BP Fallon ( as well as Cliff of the Chronology Fame) The interviews are good, Peter Jenner comes over rather critical of Marc (but then as Jenner admits, he was rather jealous of the fact that Bolan found fame after he had left their management. The lack of access to masters of video material means that they have purposely aged what video material they have of Bolan (TOTP and Marc Shows footage included) to make the material appear older the it is.

By far the worst aspect is that at various points (as presumably they were unable to get clearance) they have used a tribute band (The Metal Guru's) to play incidental music of some of the classic Bolan tracks. There are no full Bolan tracks all just snippets and the only extras is a photo gallery. For Bolan completists the extra interview material is good, some new stories, some heard before but Not as good as The Final Word. 5/5 for the interviews but really only 3/5 for the Bolan bits.
